Agnes Irwin wins PAISAA lacrosse tourney title again
The Agnes Irwin lacrosse team captured the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (PAISAA) tournament title, defeating Episcopal Academy in the finals, 12-7, May 24 at Cabrini University. It was the Owls’ second consecutive PAISAA title and their third in four years.
This was the fourth year in a row these two teams met in the PAISAA title game, and the fourth consecutive year the top two seeds advanced to the final. The No. 2 seed has now won each of the last four PAISAA titles.
Leading the charge for Owls were Alex Hark (two assists, three draw controls), Sydney Wolfington (three goals), Maria Pansini (three goals, one caused turnover, four ground balls, two draw controls), Julianne Carey (one goal), Kacy Hogarth (three goals, two assists), Emily Wills (one goal), Natalie Pansini (one goal, one caused turnover, three ground balls, four draw controls), Emma Macaione (two caused turnovers, three ground balls) and the defense of Emily Coyne (one caused turnover, two ground balls, one draw control).
In the semifinals, top seed Episcopal edged fifth-seeded Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, 15-13, while No. 2 seed Agnes Irwin defeated No. 3 Notre Dame, 13-8.
For the Owls, Emily Wills poured in four goals, and Alex Hark added three goals and two assists. Hark also had seven draw controls, four ground balls and one caused turnover. Sydney Wolfington chipped in with three goals and one assist. Maria Pansini had one goal, two assists and four draw controls. Goalie Camilla Gowen made six saves on 14 shots.
For Notre Dame, Kelly Coyle led all scorers with five goals. Hannah Gillespie added one goal and three assists and Mikayla Dever contributed two assists. Jackie Lanzalotto made 11 saves in goal for the Irish.
