Maida wants improvement after Methacton’s District 1-AAA Duals first-round win

WORCESTER >> You’d think after Methacton advanced in the opening round of the District One Dual Meet Tournament at home Thursday night, that the Warriors would be pleased,

.But head coach AJ Maida was not.

Methacton won, 49-24, over Penncrerst, but Maida was not smiling.

“I thought we wrestled poorly,” he said. “We’re looking to compete in a competitive match and I don’t know if we did that.

“Even though we won by a lopsided score.”

The Warriors were never threatened on the scoreboard, but Maida is looking to gain a little momentum going into next week’s match against OwenJ. Roberts, recent conquerors of Boyertown.

They got off to a mixed start when Tonee Ellis won by forfeit, only to see the Rams Dayton DelViscio best Corey Morabito.

But Methacton’s Jared Rebert pinned Jeremy Moore, Jorge Carmona won at 120, and after Kibwe McNair won by forfeit at 126, the rout was on.

Still, Maida wasn’t pleased

For the Rams, they got wins by fall from Nick Martini, Ryan Stocku and Marshall Smith, while the Warriors got falls from Dylan Henry, Roman Moser and MikeBlakemore.

But with Owen J. looming, Maida wants to see more from his charges.

In the evening’s first match, Council  Rock South easily dispatched Oxford 50-10, , as the Golden Hawks built a 36-0 lead and coasted from there as Max Mendez, Kyle Waterman and Braden Ricchini  notched falls and Cole Flanagan won by technical fall.

But the primary concern of Hawks head coach Brad Silimperi was his team’s health going down the stretch of the season.

“We still don’t have our full lineup on the mat yet,” Silimperi said. “We’re taking it day by day.”

“We’re expecting to do well, but a key is remaining injury free, which is something we haven’t done all year.”
