Mercury-area Boys Soccer Roundup: Pottsgrove, PJP, Boyertown win PAC openers

Pottsgrove 4, Upper Merion 1 >> Germann Larmond registered a pair of goals and an assist in the Falcons’ season-opening PAC win over the Vikings.

Tyler Rolando added a goal and an assist as Pottsgrove outscored UM 3-1 during the second half. Dylan Marchese scored and Will Kaiser had an assist to validate Liam Abdalla’s eight-save showing in goal.

Boyertown 3, Methacton 1 >> Will Schul scored twice and Nik Verma added the Bears’ final tally in a PAC Liberty Division win in each team’s opener.

Alex Kidwell registered two assists and Sal Marciante had one for the defending PAC champions. Methacton’s lone goal came from Kevin Conrad.

Pope John Paul II 7, Pottstown 0 >> Colin Flanegin recorded a hat trick and an assist and Tim Faust had 2 goals and 3 assists for PJP. Rounding out the scoring was Andrew Snyder and Ryan Dileva. Snyder also picked up an assist as did Dileva.

John Wagner and Charlie Bensinger combined in goal for the shutout.

Spring-Ford 1, Central Bucks East 1 >> The Rams fought back and earned a quality draw with the reigning PIAA Class AAA champions.

Ross Burton – assisted by Tomasz Ogonowski – put CB East up in the first half before Christian Djilo leveled terms for Spring-Ford on an assist from Mike Hyduke.

Spring-Ford keeper Kyle Allan had five saves; CB East counterpart Karl Bandlow stopped 3 shots.

 

Perkiomen Valley 2, Marple Newtown 0 >> Matt McCabe and Kyle Bessette each scored to lift the Vikings past the Tigers in non-conference play.

McCabe scored in the third minute with Bessette adding another in the 38th minute off a feed from Max Chamorro. Andrew Daubenspeck made two saves in the shutout.

Daniel Boone 5, Schuylkill Valley 0 >> Jamie Burns registered a pair of goals and two assists to lead the Blazers to a Berks Conference win over the Panthers.

Matt Glady and Ayoub Mouhou each registered a goal and an assist while Greg Blume scored once in the win.

Malvern Prep 2, Owen J. Roberts 1 >> The Friars rallied past the Wildcats in each team’s opener of the Henderson tournament.

Graham Pugh – assisted by Sam Smith – scored the Wildcats’ goal.
