Haverford School tennis team finishes 3rd at NEMA tourney
The Haverford School tennis team placed third in a field of 16 at the 20th annual “New England/Mid-Atlantic Invitational Tennis Tournament May 1. The tournament, played at McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Md., featured some of the East Coast’s top high school tennis teams, including Beacon School (N.Y.), Sidwell Friends School (D.C.), Potomac School (Va.), and Lawrenceville School (N.J.)
The Fords were paced by strong showings by junior Connor Lees, who reached the third singles final, and the first doubles team of senior Drew Clark and sophomore Benji Bacharach, who also reached the finals of their flight. Beacon was the tournament champion, with 32.5 points. Sidwell placed second, with 26, and Haverford recorded 21.5 points, for a third place finish.
The Fords defeated Central High School, 4-1, April 27. Fords winners were John Walsh (first singles), Connor Lees (second singles), Drew Clark and Luke Egan (first doubles) and Peter Merhige and Grayson Potter (second doubles).
