North Penn’s Udinski meets up with some old friends

For most of the participants in Friday’s North Penn-Central Bucks West lacrosse match (3:45, at North Penn High) it will be just another game on the schedule.

For Reece Udinski, however, it will be much more.

Udinski, you see, spent his entire lacrosse-playing life as a member of the Bucks both in the Central Bucks Athletic Association and with the CB West lacrosse team.

A move by his parents into the North Penn school district, however, changed Udinski’s allegiances.

“I’ve been playing with them almost my whole life,” Udinski said. “My two older brothers played four years under Coach (Matt) Coverdale.

“I wouldn’t say I’m nervous. I’m going in very confident.”

Udinski said he has been asked to give a scouting report on the Bucks, and has tried to be as helpful as he could be.

“They’ve asked me what I thought we could do against them, and I hope I was helpful,” the former Buck said. “I know they know a lot of my favorite moves, but I hope that if they’re focused on me, that opens things up for my teammates.”

Udinski, who North Penn head lacrosse coach Rick Smith called, “legit, a very good player,” has enjoyed his time with the Knights, but is aware of the team’s less-than-stellar reputation when it comes to lacrosse.

“Up until this year, North Penn was always thought of as an easy win,” Udinski said. “But this team has worked really hard trying to change that.”

Udinski, who starred at quarterback for the Knights football team this past fall, said his collegiate preference is to play football, and that he’s in the process of deciding which program he will join next fall.

But in the meantime, there’s a lacrosse season to play, and a team full of friends to play against Friday.

“A lot of my friends are on the team,” he said, “but I haven’t talked to any of them this week.

“I’m sure I’ll get a chance to talk with them after the game.”
