Mahanoy ends Delco Christian’s season

Delco Christian couldn’t catch a break in its PIAA Class A Tournament opener Saturday.

The District One runner-up Knights had trouble finishing baskets en route to a 51-31 defeat to District 11 champion Mahanoy Area.

Senior guard Siani McNeill led the Knights with 11 points.

“We had trouble finishing around the basket, a lot of misses in close early on hurt us,” DC coach Mark Weaver said. “I think they beat us up and down the floor more than they should have … they got a lot of loose balls and were maybe more assertive than we were. They’re a good team.”

Claudia Norton had a solid all-around game with seven points, seven rebounds and four steals.

“She deserves mention,” said Weaver, who guided the Knights to a 20-8 season. “She did some good things.”

The Knights trailed by six after the first quarter, but were done in by a 9-1 second period and never recovered.
