Hill School girls post highest score in program history at Easterns

Hill School senior Payton Miles took home a gold medal in the 100-yard freestyle to become the first female champion in program history as The Hill School wrapped up its season at the 116th Eastern Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championships held at LaSalle University this past weekend.

The Hill School girls placed sixth, posting the highest overall score (198) in program history. Peddie School took first with 517 overall points.

At the conclusion of the two-day meet, Miles found herself clanging together four medals around her neck during the ride home. The senior posted a 50.98 in the 100 free — which she edged the field by 0.32 seconds — took silver in the 50 free with a time of 23.73 and also anchored the Blues’ 200 free relay, which took fifth at 1:39.65. The relay also consisted of Brigid Donnelly, Paige Swartz, and Matylda Zaklicki. In the 400 free relay, Donnelly, Madeline McKean, Zaklicki and Miles captured a fifth place medal with a time of 3:37.65.

The Hill School’s Christian DeVol set a new meet and pool record in the 1-meter diving this past weekend at the 116th Eastern Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championships.

DeVol posted a 599.60, with the second place finisher, Episcopal Academy’s Andrew Owsiany posting 521 points. Over the span of the two-day meet, the Hill School boys placed ninth overall with 194 points. Mercersburg Academy took first with 471 overall points.

Junior Alberto Mestre earned two individual silvers and was part of two relays that also medaled at the conclusion of the meet. Mestre finished second in the 50 free (20.64) and the 100 free (45.10).

He also swam the first leg of The Hill’s 200 free relay (1:26.57) which included Chase Chen, JooYeob Kim and Chris Sachiavone. That contingent also placed sixth in the 400 free relay, finishing up at 3:12.48.

Individually, Schiavone took fifth place in the 50 free with a time of 21.00.

Overall on the meet, The Hill School boys and girls combined for 46 personal bests, 14 changes to the team’s top ten lists and five new school records.
