Presenting 2015 All-Main Line field hockey teams

The Main Line high school field hockey scene included a number of talented teams this fall.
Episcopal Academy (22-0) couldn’t be beat, finishing in first in the InterAc and first in the PAISAA tournament.
Villa Maria Academy (21-1-1) won the PIAA District One title and couldn’t be beat until the PIAA Class AA state championship final.
Conestoga (21-4) captured the Central League title, finished third in the PIAA District One tournament, and advanced to the PIAA Class AAA state quarterfinals.
Other Main Line teams that enjoyed fine seasons were Academy of Notre Dame (15-4 overall, 8-2 InterAc), Agnes Irwin (14-7), Harriton (10-6-1 overall, 7-3-1 Central League), Haverford High (14-6 overall, 10-1 Central League), Lower Merion (11-7-1) and Merion Mercy Academy (13-8). Lower Merion advanced to the PIAA District One tournament this fall for what is believed to be the first time ever.
The All-Main Line high school field hockey teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of sports available to first team, second team and honorable mention – but follows the priority of the coaches’ selections.
What follows are the 2015 All-Main Line high school field hockey teams:

FIRST TEAM

Quinn Maguire, Academy of Notre Dame – Junior forward and co-captain, a first team All-InterAc and All-Delco pick, scored 28 goals in 19 games, and dished out 11 assists.
Mary Kate Neff, Academy of Notre Dame – Junior forward and co-captain, a first team All-Delco and All-InterAc selection, scored 22 goals and dished out 14 assists.
Colleen Kearney, Academy of Notre Dame – Junior defender, a first team All-InterAc selection and second team All-Delco pick, was a key to the Irish’s strong defense this fall, and posted three defensive saves.
Julianna Tornetta, Agnes Irwin – Junior midfielder, a first team All-InterAc (for the third time) and first team All-Delco pick, scored 49 goals in 21 games (including her 100th career goal). The Princeton commit was considered the Owls’ best player this fall and was particularly valued for her game sense, field vision and commitment.
Rosie Kalis, Agnes Irwin – Senior goalie, a first team All-InterAc and All-Delco selection, posted an .820 save percentage. Valued for her technical and tactical understanding of her demanding role, as well as her ability to organize the players in front of her. Committed to Miami University of Ohio.
Sam Swart, Archbishop Carroll – Junior midfielder, a first team All-Delco and All-Catholic League selection, was the Patriots’ second-leading scorer and led the Carroll squad in assists.
Casey Allen, Conestoga – Senior midfielder, a first team All-Central League selection, was the MVP of the Central League champions, tallying 21 goals (including five game-winning goals) and 23 assists in 25 games. Was striker on offensive corners and primary stroker.
Meredith Ross, Conestoga – Junior forward, a first team All-Central League pick, was the Pioneers’ Offensive MVP, tallying 39 goals in 25 games (including two game-winners) and dishing out 11 assists). Was striker on offensive corners and primary stroker.
Kiley Allen, Conestoga – Sophomore defensive midfielder, winner of the Pioneers’ Most Valuable Midfield Player award and an All-Central League selection, was a fine two-way player, tallying eight goals and dishing out 15 assists, as well as performing well as inserter on offensive corners, fly on defensive corners and primary stroker.
Margaux Paolino, Episcopal Academy – Senior center midfielder and co-captain was the Churchwomens’ MVP. A three-time first team All-Inter-Ac selection and first team All-Delco pick, she tallied 22 goals in 22 games this fall and led the PAISAA champions in assists. Noted for her exceptional skills, standout vision and remarkable speed and quickness as well as her unselfishness and on-field leadership. Will play field hockey at Duke University.
Maddie Backsai, Episcopal Academy – Senior center back and co-captain is a two-time first team All-InterAc and All-Delco selection. An all-around standout who tallied 15 goals, 14 assists and 12 defensive saves this fall. Noted for her advanced tackling and defensive skills, she received EA’s Bicentennial Class Field Hockey Award for ability, leadership, sportsmanship and spirit. Long-time EA head coach Gina Buggy said, “Maddie is the very best high school defender I have seen.”
Corinne Zanolli, Episcopal Academy – Junior forward, a two-time first team All-InterAc selection as well as a first team All-Delco pick, was EA’s high scorer with 32 goals and 14 assists. Also made four defensive saves. Considered a prolific goal-scorer, she is valued for her standout speed and quickness as well as exceptional ball control. Is committed to Stanford University, where she will play field hockey.
Courtnie Williamson, Episcopal Academy – Senior left midfielder, a first team All-InterAc and first team All-Delco selection, was the flyer on defense, allowing only three direct shots all season. She also tallied eight goals and five direct assists. Noted for her strong possession skills as well as excellent elimination skills, she was often EA’s outlet coming out of the defensive area and always a threat with the ball offensively. Will continue her field hockey career at the University of North Carolina.
Maddie Henry, Friends’ Central – Senior goalie, an All-Friends Schools League first team selection, was the Phoenix’s MVP. The Cornell-bound senior is regarded as one of the area’s top netminders, and finished the season with a sterling .901 save percentage.
Robyn Clark, Harriton – Senior high center midfielder and co-captain, a two-time first team All-Central League selection, was the Rams’ offensive MVP for the second year in a row. She tallied a team-high eight goals and nine defensive saves, and was valued for her great speed, stick skills and ball control.
Haley Morris, Harriton – Senior center defender and captain was the Rams’ defensive MVP for the second year in a row. An All-Central League pick, she was considered the anchor of the Rams’ defense, and was valued for her composure under pressure, great clears, communication skills and ball control.
Laura Lasprogata, Harriton – Senior goalie, the first team All-Central League netminder, recorded 149 saves in 17 games, posting a .730 save percentage. Noted for her strong stick saves and strong clears, she tallied 15 or more saves three times this season.

Tess Horan, Haverford High – Senior midfielder and captain, a first team All-Central League pick, scored 23 goals and dished out 13 assists. The Drexel University-bound senior, valued for her leadership, is noted as a dynamic player all over the field, who was involved in almost any play offensively and defensively.

Lea Vanluvender, Haverford High – Junior defender, a first team All-Central League pick, has great defensive footwork and is quick to step to the ball. She was in the Fords’ offensive corner and on defense, had multiple defensive saves and tallied three goals as a center back and three assists.
Emma Ungar, Lower Merion – Senior midfielder and captain, an All-Central League first team selection, helped the Aces to what is believed to be their first-ever appearance in the PIAA District One tourney and is the inaugural winner of the team’s Emma Ungar Award – recognition for superior leadership, citizenship, teamwork, school spirit and a commitment to her team.
Samantha Bruttomesso-Clark, Lower Merion – Junior midfielder was valued for the caliber of her play in the midfield, her ability to create plays and make a difference on the attack for the Aces, and her handling of the center mid position. Provided solid offensive punch, scoring five goals and dishing out 12 assists.
Kelsey Farkas, Merion Mercy Academy – Junior defensive center midfielder/left midfielder was the Golden Bears’ MVP. Considered the heart of the Merion Mercy squad, her skill was paramount in the middle of the field. Was one of the strikers on the Golden Bears’ corners, and tallied seven goals this fall.
Jamie Natale, Merion Mercy Academy – Junior right midfielder is considered to have the best stick skills on the strong Golden Bears’ squad, and paired with her speed she could carry the ball upfield with ease. Tallied seven goals and dished out seven assists, and was one of the team’s strikers on corners.
Katie Quinn, Radnor – Senior forward and captain, a first team All-Central League selection and second team All-Delco pick, tallied a team-leading 10 goals and dished out six assists during the season.
Megan Vermeil, Villa Maria Academy – Senior forward scored 36 goals and dished out 15 assists in 23 games. Senior All-Star selection also received all-league honors. Will play field hockey for Villanova University next fall.
Abigail Siana, Villa Maria Academy – Senior forward and captain dished out 29 assists and scored 19 goals in 23 games. Senior All-Star selection also received all-league honors. Will play field hockey for Villanova University next fall.
Lindsay Dickinson, Villa Maria Academy – Promising sophomore midfielder was an excellent all-around player for the PIAA state finalists, as the all-league selection dished out 18 assists and scored nine goals in 23 games.
