Delco Football Coaches MVPs: Sabree was a sack master for Sun Valley
HAVERFORD >> Wali Sabree has been Sun Valley’s top defensive player this season.
In last Friday night’s 28-6 victory over Octorara, the second in a row for the Vanguards, Sabree was a force in the trenches, registering three sacks and a pass deflection to pace a Sun Valley defense that allowed just 137total yards.
For his efforts, Sabree was named the Independent Schools MVP at Monday night’s Delaware County Coaches Association meeting at Barnaby’s of Havertown.
The Del Val League selected Jeremy Dembry as its player of the week. A two-way playmaker at running back and defensive end, Dembry’s performance keyed the unbeaten Knights (7-0) to a 24-0 triumph over Chichester. Dembry enjoyed his best game of the year running the ball, amassing 171 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns.
Jack Donaghy claimed the top weekly honor in the Central League for the fourth time this season. The Haverford senior quarterback threw for four touchdowns and a season-high 287 yards in the Fords’ 33-14 decision over Penncrest.
