Lansdale Catholic battles Conwell-Egan in PCL AA clash
Lansdale Catholic continues its march through the Philadelphia Catholic League Friday night when the Crusaders host Class AA Division rival Conwell-Egan, on the turf at Hatboro-Horsham High School.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
“We’re both 4-2, and it’s always a good game between the two of us,” said LC coach Tom Kirk. “I’m sure we’ll both be ready for Friday night.”
The Crusaders are coming off a 20-6 victory over Bishop McDevitt, a game in which LC rushed for 161 yards, controlled the ball for the majority of the game and played stifling defense in a dominant first half.
With the win, LC evened its PCL Class AA record to 1-1.
Egan, meanwhile, fell 42-14 to Episcopal Academy last week. The Eagles are 1-0 in the PCL Class AA coming into this one, by virtue of a 32-0 shutout of Neumann-Goretti two weeks ago.
Egan has a versatile quarterback in Kendall Jones, who reached the end zone through the air and on the ground against Episcopal. It was a rough outing for the Eagles, but Jones managed 66 passing yards and 65 rushing yards in the defeat.
Able to make people miss downfield, Jones hurdled a defender along the way to a 31-yard carry.
This week, the Eagles look to clean up the penalties. Egan was hampered by 10 flags against them in Week Six, along with three turnovers, and fell behind big by halftime.
LC’s offense came to life in the win over McDevitt, grinding out nine first downs in the opening half and capping things off before the break with a score off a hook and ladder.
LC’s defensive line comes into the game playing well, led by Ifeanyi Okorji, who got to the quarterback in key spots last week.
Defense could rule in this one again — last year, LC held on for a 7-6 victory over the Eagles.
