Academy Park keeps cruising
Having already qualified for the district singles tournament and locked down the Del Val League team title, Lattana Sithara and Vicky Outland helped their mates take care of some unfinished business, as Academy Park blanked Chichester, 5-0, to improve to 14-0 overall and 8-0 in the league.
Sithara rolled at first singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Outland dominated at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2. After closing out league play Wednesday against Chester, the pair is set to compete in the District One tournament Thursday. Academy Park will represent the Del Val in the District One team tourney scheduled for Monday.
In the Inter-Ac League:
Agnes Irwin 5, Germantown Academy 2 >> Carlin Sullivan and Kathryn Hall rallied to take down Mikayla Fassler and Kristen Haugen, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 10-7, at third doubles to halt a brief run by the Patriots.
All-Delco Camille Smukler, Lexi Short and Kayla Neary took care of business at singles for the league-leading Owls (5-0, 2-0).
Episcopal Academy 5, Notre Dame 2 >> Nadiyah Browning outlasted Anne Marie Crinnion, 6-3, 6-3, at first singles and the Churchwomen ruled the doubles competition in handing the Irish (6-1, 1-1) their first loss of the season.
Grace Leasure and McKenna Bramlage claimed second and third singles, respectively, for Notre Dame.
In the Central League:
Strath Haven 7, Haverford High 0 >> In the most tightly contested match, Caroline Schafer and Madison Snyder battled past Jillian Bernstein and Katie Burhop, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0, to take first doubles and enable the Panthers to complete the sweep.
Harriton 7, Upper Darby 0 >> Judy Tsui and Sarah Ung provided the strongest showing for the Royals (8-8, 4-6) in dropping the third doubles match, 2-6, 0-6.
Lower Merion 7, Springfield 0 >> Rachel Smith’s 3-6, 1-6 loss at second singles proved the highlight of the match for the Cougars.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Downingtown West 6, Sun Valley 1 >> Devin Cronin outdueled Kelli Dumont, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), at second singles to provide the Vanguards’ lone win.
