Friends’ Central improves to 2-0

Friends’ Central School defeated host Cardinal O’Hara,2-0, Friday. The Phoenix opened the scoring in the third minute of play, when senior midfielder Jesse Rubin took a nice feed from Lorna Macfarlane and slotted it neatly into the back of the net. Play was back and forth for the rest of the half, until the Phoenix broke through again in the 38th minute with a good cross from Rubin finding its way onto the foot of sophomore Kate Raphaely for her first career varsity goal. The Phoenix were able to shut down O’Hara for the rest of the game behind strong play from the back line consisting of Avital Schweitzer, Morgan Crowley, Ava Forman and Emily Lorry. 
Friends’ Central kicked off their season Wednesday with a 1-0 win against Episcopal Academy. The lone goal was scored in the 12th minute by FCS freshman forward Phebe Guenther, and assisted by junior midfielder Lorna MacFarlane. Senior Goalie Caroline Fakharzadeh added seven saves to preserve the clean sheet, while senior defender Rucha Alur made a game-saving tackle with less than a minute to go. The back line for the Phoenix was anchored by the outstanding play of sophomore center backs Morgan Crowley and Ava Forman, while senior Midfielder Anna Leone was a dominant force in front of them down the stretch.
