Murtha, Herrin give Ridley the edge

Molly Murtha made her presence known all over the court, totaling 17 kills, three blocks and 20 digs, and Carlee Herrin kept the Ridley attack humming with 42 assists as the Green Raiders slipped past Marple Newtown, 3-2, Thursday in Central League volleyball.

Amy Staiber aided the Ridley defense with 21 digs, while the Tigers relied on Rachel Dennin (23 assists) and Sarah Roberts (15 kills, 10 blocks).

Garnet Valley 3, Conestoga 0: Elise Cummings quarterbacked the attack with 17 assists, the frontline duo of Maria Nicolaides and Sekai Kaminski combined for 16 kills and three blocks, and Christina Duko keyed the defense with 10 digs for the red-hot Jaguars (13-1 overall, 9-0 league).

Strath Haven 3, Haverford High 0: The Panthers (16-2, 9-0) retained a share of the top spot in the standings as Brianna Fisher and Casey Blum recorded a dozen kills apiece and Ellie Steif dealt 21 assists.

Upper Darby 3, Harriton 0: Kelly McLaughlin finished off 10 kills and Tina Tong dished out 15 assists to help the Royals (4-12, 2-7) emerge with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-21 win.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Notre Dame 3, Springside Chestnut Hill 0: The Irish (10-1, 5-0) extended their winning streak to nine thanks to the spot-on serving of Dana Kieft (11 aces), the lethal net play of Shannon Quigley (11 kills) and the playmaking of Cori Cichowicz (15 assists).

In the Catholic League:

Cardinal O’Hara 3, Hallahan 0: Charlee Borcky served four aces to go with her 10 kills, Kiki Daly spiked 10 as well and Natalie Gray came up with 13 digs to lead the Lions (13-3, 6-1) to the 25-10, 25-11, 25-13 romp.

Archbishop Carroll 3, Bonner-Prendergast 0: The Pandas were paced by Jackie McCarrick (16 digs), Sam Bohn (six blocks) and Veronica Kirchner (four kills, four blocks).

In the Del Val League:

Academy Park 3, Chester 0: The Knights (5-9, 5-3) found a gem in Trea-Sure Ketter (16 kills, three aces) while Elisha Hernandez and Taylor Eiserman combined for nine kills and six aces.
