Elise Cumming set the offensive tone with 24 assists as the Garnet Valley volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 victory over Archbishop Carroll. The Jaguars won, 26-24, 25-11, 25-21.
Maria Nicolaides (seven kills), Brianna Plush (six kills) and Sydney Portale (five kills) were strong at the net, while Jenna Hostetler played strong defense and recorded five aces.
In other nonleague action:
Notre Dame 3, Ridley 0: Cori Cichowicz recorded 22 assists to pace the Irish past the Green Raiders, (25-14, 25-18, 25-14). Meagan Milligan recorded 10 digs and Shannon Quigley added four aces.
Haverford wins twice: It was as good night for the Fords as they knocked off Rustin, 3-1 and North Penn, 3-0. Haverford defeated the Cardinals 26-24, 21-25, 25-21, 25-20 and knocked the Golden Knights, 25-13, 25-23, 24-14. No other details were provided.
Upper Dublin 3, Radnor 0: Sophomore setter Brianna Ellis was a strong leader for the Raiders, but it wasn’t enough as Upper Dublin won, 25-6, 25-15, 25-14.
