Neshaminy football’s Mason Jones leads Bucks County to comeback win over MontCo (GALLERY)

LANGHORNE >> Neshaminy quarterback Mason Jones went out with a bang in his last high school football game ever at Harry E. Franks Stadium, engineering Bucks County’s comeback bid with a pair of third-quarter touchdown passes that helped erase a 40-29 halftime deficit in the second annual Bucks-MontCo All-Star Football Classic.

In a 65-40 triumph for Bucks County, Jones completed 16-of-19 passes for 249 yards, tossing a total of four touchdown aerials with no interceptions in his sendoff to Delaware.

After Bucks County took a 15-8 lead on Mason’s first two scoring passes in the initial frame, one to teammate Zach Tredway (MONMOUTH), another to Pennridge receiver Jagger Hartshorn (WAGNER), it was MontCo’s time to shine and they did so by outscoring their next-door neighbors 32-14. Hartshorn was the Rams’ quarterback last fall but played wideout in this game.

Abington wide receiver George Reid (TEMPLE), who caught a 20-yard scoring toss from Upper Moreland quarterback Casey Decker (DelVal) in the first quarter, grabbed two more TD passes to start the second period, one from Decker and another from Souderton QB Joe Curotto (WEST VA.). Decker and Curotto combined on more than 300 yards passing in the first half.

North Penn receiver Jake Hubler (MILLERSVILLE) took over from there, latching onto a 62-yard scoring strike from Decker then taking the ball to the house himself on a 3-yard plunge, putting his team on top 40-29 at the half.

Bucks County’s two scores in the third quarter came on an electrifying 89-yard kickoff return by Tredway and an 11-yard TD run by Hartshorn.

Jones went back to work in the third quarter, first tossing a 42-yard scoring strike to Hartshorn and then throwing a 13-yard TD pass to CB West’s Kevin O’Hanlon (GETTYSBURG).

Bucks County closed it out with three rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the first two by Bensalem’s Malcolm Carey (ALVERNIA) and the last by Neshaminy’s Will Dogba (ALBRIGHT).

Hartshorn stood out for Bucks with a rushing touchdown, a pair of TD catches and 137 yards passing. Tredway caught seven passes for 96 yards and Carey rushed for 84 yards on 12 carries. CB East’s Barney Amor (COLGATE) made good on all five of his point-after attempts.

Quakertown linebacker Noah Wood (ITHACA) and Bensalem defensive back Gerald Whea notched interceptions for Bucks County in the second half when the winners pitched a shutout, limiting the opposition to 30 yards on offense.

While Reid notched three TDs and caught five passes that were good for 86 yards for MontCo, Upper Dublin’s Mike Cottom (LOCK HAVEN) was the overall yardage leader in that category with four catches, good for 115 yards. Decker threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns on 9-of-14 passing while Curotto completed 7-of-15 passes for 120 yards and a TD. North Penn tight end Dan Drop (JUNIATA) caught three two-point conversions in the game.

Neshaminy head coach Steve Wilmot guided the Bucks team to the win in his first year at the helm. Paul Winters, from Upper Dublin, coached the MontCo team.

The second annual Bucks-MontCo all-star game was dedicated to the memory of the late, legendary CB West head coach Mike Pettine Sr. In 33 seasons, Pettine guided the Bucks to a record of 326-42-4 before stepping down after the 1999 season.

Last year, the MontCo All-Stars defeated Bucks County, 19-17, in the inaugural Bucks-Montco All-Star Football Classic.
