Main Line girls’ soccer wrap-up: Baldwin can’t be beat in non-league play

The Baldwin School soccer team defeated Archbishop Ryan 4-1 Oct. 1 at Cabrini University, to complete the non-league portion of its schedule with a perfect 10-0 record. Sophomore forward Gia Vicari scored a hat trick and freshman midfielder Alex Loomis scored her first varsity goal to lead the Polar Bears (11-1, 1-1) to a decisive non-league win. Vicari has 18 goals this season (as of Monday) and has set the single season scoring record and the program all-time scoring record midway through her sophomore season. Baldwin’s sophomore goalie Simi Bleznak recorded eight saves.

In other Main Line high school girls’ soccer action:

Conestoga tied host Unionville, 1-1, Tuesday. Conestoga (8-0-3, 6-0-1). Conestoga dictated most of the play from the start, but Unionville was dangerous on the counter, and was awarded a penalty kick in the second half that was capitalized on. Conestoga got control of the game back and tied the game with around 10 minutes to go. Madie French hit a free-kick over the defense that Nia Scott controlled and volleyed home over the keepers head. Shot totals were 17-9 in the Pioneers’ favor. Conestoga keepers Colleen Baldwin and Maeve Regan split the game in goal and combined for eight saves.
The Pioneers defeated Ridley, 2-0, Sept. 29. One goal was scored in each half for Stoga, with the first being scored by Caitlin Donovan, and assisted by Ariel Loevy. And the second being scored by Ariel Loevy, unassisted. Shot totals were 27-1 in Conestoga’s favor, and corner count was 11-0 for the Pioneers.
Episcopal Academy defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 2-0, Tuesday. Goals were scored by Maddie Loughead and Anna Salvucci (assist Raina Kuzemka). EA goalie Morgan Messner recorded nine saves, including a diving save on an indirect kick that bent around the wall.
The Churchwomen defeated Academy of Notre Dame, 5-1, Sept. 30. EA got a hat trick from sophomore Izzy Rohr and one from both freshman Lauren Cunningham and senior Jackie Dzwonczyk. EA keepers Morgan Messner and Hannah Moriarity combioned for five saves. Assists were by Cunningham, Julia Depillis, Anna Salvucci, Raina Kuzemka and Kelsey Slack.
Friends’ Central traveled to Episcopal Academy for a rain-soaked contest Sept. 28 and battled them for the full 80 minutes to a 0-0 draw. Despite several great chances in the second half, the Phoenix could not quite find the back of the net and were forced to settle for a tie against the reigning Inter-Ac champs.
FCS goalie Mira Kauffman-Rosengarten had a fine game, tallying eight saves – while outstanding defensive performances in front of her from Ava Forman, Caroline Blackman, Olivia Comstock, Phebe Guenther, and the rest of the squad, helped to preserve the clean sheet.
One day earlier, Friends’ Central defeated Germantown Friends, 2-0. Play was back and forth for the first 20 minutes, until junior Emily Lorry broke the stalemate with a rocket of a free kick from 25 yards out.The Phoenix tacked on the insurance marker in the 36th minute, when Ava Forman slotted freshman Izzy MacFarlane clean in on goal, en route to a collected finish and her second goal in as many games. The defense stood tall for the Phoenix the rest of the way, with goalie Mira Kauffman-Rosengarten adding six saves for another shutout.
Radnor played Springfield to a 1-1 tie in two overtimes Tuesday. Maura Holst scored Radnor’s only goal on a penalty kick, and Alexa Solomon was in goal for the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders defeated Bishop Shanahan, 1-0, Oct. 1. Carolyn Eckstein scored the game-winner and goalie Alexa Solomon posted the shutout.
Shipley earned its first Friends Schools League win in a 6-0 victory against Abington Sept. 27. Leading the way for the Gators were Eliza Green (two goals, one assist), Juelle Love (one goal, two assists), Hannah Brainsky (one goal, one assist), Liv Hamilton (two assists), Cami Johnson (one goal) and Natalia Joseph (one goal).
