The senior attack has won close to 300 draw controls during her Churchwomen lacrosse career. A fine all-around performer, she scored more than a dozen goals, caused a dozen turnovers and won 77 draw controls for the Inter-Ac champions last spring, receiving second team All-Inter-Ac recognition. She will play lacrosse for Georgetown University next spring. Off the field at EA, Richter is President of Student Council and is a member of Girls in STEM. Episcopal Academy girls lacrosse head coach Josie Tomaino said, “Sydney is one of the strongest leaders I’ve ever had the privilege of coaching. She has a very mature perspective on sports and competition, and does a great job communicating the bigger picture to our younger players. She prioritizes our team culture and program closeness above all else. On the field, she has great vision, high game IQ, and does an excellent job communicating in a positive tone in even the highest pressure situations. Syd is very driven and works hard to become an even stronger and more dynamic player every single day.”

Q: What (in your opinion) are the biggest guys to a successful draw control?

A: The biggest key to success on the draw is the dig. My first motion has to be quick and get the ball in my stick so I can direct it where I want it to go. My teammates on the circle, and the communication that takes place between us, are also very important. We have to create space to run onto the ball and be on the correct side of our opponents to give ourselves the advantage.

Q: What aspects of your game did you work on the most during the past off-season?

A: In the off-season, I worked on mastering a quick dodge and accurate finish. I have used this skill during the season from behind the crease and I look forward to using this dodge from the top of the 8 at Georgetown next year.

Q: What has been your favorite experience with the EA girls lacrosse team?

A: My favorite experience with EA girls lacrosse was definitely our win over Mcdonough this season. We won on a goal in the last seven seconds of the game, and it was an awesome feeling to take down such a strong program with my teammates. It was definitely a team win and it felt good to bring some Philly pride to the national rankings.

Q: Tell us a little about your start in competitive lacrosse – have you always played attack?

A: My mom played lacrosse for Tufts University, so at a very young age she put a stick in my hands. I grew up playing with my sisters and got into a competitive league as soon as I was old enough to do so. I was a middie most of my time playing, and I am recruited to play midfield at Georgetown. For EA, I get to fill the low crease role for our team!

Q: Who have been your top lacrosse mentors, and what was the most important thing you learned from each of them?

A: My mom is definitely my top lacrosse mentor. When she played, she loved to score! From her, I have learned to work hard and be resilient. She always wants to go to the field with me to help me work on my shooting and dodging.

Q: Who is your favorite lacrosse player to watch?

A: My favorite player to watch right now is Belle Smith. She is such a dynamic player for Boston College who makes plays all over the field. She is an awesome player to watch and learn from.

Q: You wear uniform jersey No. 2 for EA lacrosse – is there a reason you chose that number?

A: No. 2 hasn’t always been my lucky number, but now that I’ve worn it for the past three years it is my favorite number to play in.

Q: What is your favorite academic course at EA? What do you plan to major in at Georgetown? Is there a career path that particularly appeals to you at the present time?

A: My favorite course I take at Episcopal is AP Economics. I am entering the business school at Georgetown so I plan to implement what I have learned this year into my academic career in college. I plan to major in Finance or Management.
