The 5-foot-8 senior guard, a first team All-AACA selection, was a strong performer for the Hurricanes’ basketball squad, averaging 16.8 ppg, 7.4 rpg and 2.3 apg. A standout two-sport athlete, she was runnerup in the AACA Most Valuable Player soccer voting last fall. Off the court at Villa Maria, Catania participates in Peer Ministry and Mission and Ministry and is a Eucharist Minister and a leader of Speak-Up. She will be attending University of New Hampshire in the fall, and will be a preferred walk-on on the Wildcats’ women’s basketball team.

Q: What has been your favorite experience as a Villa Maria basketball player?

A: My favorite experience would have to be the friendships that I have made over my past four years with my teammates and coaches and being able to evolve my game with the help of everyone around me.

Q: What aspect of your basketball game are you working on most currently?

A: I am currently working on my ball handling and continuing to develop my inside and outside shot.

Q: What in your opinion are the biggest advantages to being a multi-sport athlete in high school, compared to an athlete who only concentrates on one sport?

A: I have always loved playing more than one sport because of the competitiveness and how much fun it is. Going from one season directly into another helps my work ethic build into the next season.

Q: Who have been your top basketball mentors, and what was the most important thing you learned from each of them?

A: My parents because they support me in everything that I do and they always say just do what you love. My coaches (high school coaches and my Comets coaches) have been huge mentors to me because they push me to the best of my ability every time I step on the floor.

Q: What is your favorite academic course at Villa Maria?

A: My favorite course is Math.
