Presenting 2023 All-Main Line boys lacrosse teams
The Main Line high school boys’ lacrosse scene this past spring featured a PIAA 3A state championship team in Radnor (23-3), while Haverford School (17-3) won the Inter-Ac championship. Other local boys lacrosse teams that posted winning records included Conestoga (15-7), Malvern Prep (16-7), Episcopal Academy (12-9), Harriton (10-9), Devon Prep (10-8) and Barrack Hebrew Academy (10-2).
The All-Main Line high school boys’ lacrosse teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of sports available to first team, second team and honorable mention – but follows the priority of the coaches’ selections.
What follows are the 2023 All-Main Line high school boys’ lacrosse teams:
FIRST TEAM
Drew Merschel, Conestoga – Senior midfielder and captain was the Pio-neers’ MVP, scoring 47 goals and dishing out a dozen assists. An All-Central League selection, he will play for Denison University next spring.
Gavin Daly, Conestoga – Senior defender and captain was the Pioneers’ defensive MVP, leading the team in clearing, ground balls and takeaways. An All-Central League pick, he will play for Embry Riddle next spring.
TJ Lamb, Episcopal Academy – Senior midfielder, an All-Inter-Ac and all-state selection, scored 32 goals and dished out 26 assists. Received The Stick Lacrosse Award, presented to the outstanding EA player in the opinion of the coaches. Will play for Cornell University next spring.
Lucas Slate, Episcopal Academy – Senior attack, an All-Inter-Ac selec-tion, scored 38 goals and dished out a dozen assists. Received The Episcopal Academy Team of 1977 Lacrosse Prize, presented to the EA player who best exemplifies team effort, sportsmanship and spirit. Will play for Richmond University next spring.
Ryan DiRocco, Haverford School – Senior attack, the Inter-Ac;s Most Valuable Player, tallied 46 goals and dished out 43 assists for the Inter-Ac champions. Also received all-state and All-American recognition. A three-sport athlete for the Fords (lacrosse, soccer, ice hockey), he will continue his lacrosse career at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Collin Zeller, Haverford School – Senior midfielder, an All-Inter-Ac and all-state selection, was an all-around performer for the Inter-Ac champions, scoring 30 goals and dishing out a dozen assists.
Gavin Cooper, Haverford School – Sophomore defender, an All-Inter-Ac and all-state selection, provided tough defense for the Inter-Ac cham-pions.
AJ Nikolic, Malvern Prep – Senior attack/midfielder, a repeat first team All-Main Line, All-American, all-state and All-Inter-Ac selection, was the Friars’ MVP, scoring 55 goals and dishing out 40 assists. Heading to Cornell University.
Lucca DiBartolomeo, Malvern Prep – Junior long stick middie was an all-around performer for a strong Friar squad, receiving All-American, all-state and All-Inter-Ac honors this spring. Committed to Penn State University.
Cooper Mueller, Radnor – Senior midfielder, the Most Valuable Player of the Central League, received All-American and all-state honors as well. An all-around performer who collected 62 ground balls, caused 25 opposition turnovers and scored 11 goals and nine assists. he will play for Princeton University next spring.
Luciano Chadha, Radnor – Senior defender and captain, an All-American, all-state and All-Central League selection, provided tough defense for the PIAA 3A state champions, collecting 53 ground balls and causing 36 opposition turnovers. Will play for Amherst College next spring.
Nick DeCain, Radnor – Senior goalie, an All-American, all-state and All-Central League selection, posted a .660 save percentage and allowed only three goals per game this spring for the PIAA 3A state champions. Will play for Washington & Lee University next spring.
SECOND TEAM
Barrack Hebrew Academy – Noah Rosenthal, senior attack.
Conestoga – Wade Beckstrom, senior attack; Mikey Johnson, sophomore goalie; Clif Hawkins, junior attack.
Devon Prep – Cole Brassington, senior goalie; Eammon Donovan, junior midfielder; Zach Sebra, sophomore faceoff/midfielder.
Episcopal Academy – Paul Bruder, sophomore defender.
Harriton – Avi Ragozzino, senior long pole; Jack Gallagher, junior long pole.
Haverford High – Ben Devitis, senior midfielder; Brendan McNichol, senior midfielder.
Haverford School – Wells Flinn, senior midfielder; Louie Atkinson, senior defender; Brody Murphy, junior goalie.
Lower Merion – Declan Mack, junior attack.
Malvern Prep – Roman Buono, senior defender; Peri DiBartolomeo, junior short stick defensive midfielder; Mike Ortlieb, sophomore attack; Patrick Keenan, senior defender.
Radnor – Colin French, senior attack; Michael Savadove, junior defender; Mason Montrella, senior attack; Nate Lucchesi, junior midfielder.
Shipley – Colin Andreoli, senior attack.
