DLN Roundup: Turner powers Whippets past Warriors
In a defensive battle, Downingtown West edged West Chester Henderson 1-0 in Ches-Mont baseball action Monday. Whippets’ pitcher Drew Turner went the distance, scattered five hits and fanned 10 batters to get the win. Teammate Cooper Young drove in the lone run of the contest. The Warriors’ Nick Prince had two of Henderson’s five hits.
West Chester Rustin 6, Oxford >> Pitcher’s Kyle Kearns and B. Bump combined for the shutout. Each surrendered just one hit and Kearns fanned nine batters. Nick Covis and David McClain each notched two hits for the Warriors.
Great Valley 11, Kennett 0 >> The Pats blanked the Blue Demons. Tyler Iams picked up his fourth win on the mound for Great valley, and Jack Clearfield blasted a three-run homer.
Coatesville 6, Bishop Shanahan 0 >> The Raiders scored four runs in the second inning and cruise to a Ches-Mont victory. Pitcher Ben Jones struck out 11 and allowed three hits in six innings of work. Spencer Ferguson, Magnus Krieger and Jake Martin each notched two hits to pace Coatesville.
Softball
Unionville 4, Sun Valley 0 >> ’Horns starter Madison Parisi allowed just one hit and fanned 10 batters to earn a complete-game shutout, and at the plate she registered a double. Madeline Tomasco also doubled and Jillian Heimberger was a defensive standout at third base for Unionville.
Coatesville 4, Bishop Shanahan 3 >> Coatesville used a four-run rally in the seventh inning to complete a walk-off win. Ashlynn Sherman started the rally with a solo home run. Alexa Bojko had three hits, including a double and home run, for Bishop Shanahan.
Downingtown West 5, Bishop Shanahan 0 >> Addy Carter went the distance, allowed three hits and fanned 15 to get the victory. Taylor Hendricks paced the Whippets by going 3-for-4. Skye Zolomij notched two hits for the Warriors.
Boys Lacrosse
Coatesville 10, Abington 7 >> The Raiders broke open this non-league clash by winning the second half 5-3. Owen Ellis led Coatesville with three goals and an assist. Derek Cooper and Josh Van Orden each added two goals and an assist for the Raiders.
Boys Tennis
Unionville 7, Downingtown West 0 >> The Longhorns swept the Whippets in Ches-Mont action, winning six of seven matches in straight sets. The lone exception was at No. 2 doubles, where the team of Manuel Prem and Shivam Maheshwari edged West’s Ronish Padnhy and Akshit Vishnu Arunachalam 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.
