Central Bucks West shines at home invite

DOYLESTOWN >> Owen Donaher waited patiently at the final exchange.

He saw teammate Luca Testani leading the pack.

Now it was up to Donaher to bring it home.

“I was a little nervous when I got the baton,” he said, smiling afterwards. “But with 800 meters to go, I was like, I got this…”

Donaher not only held the lead but increased it, pulling away during his 1,600-meter leg to anchor Central Bucks West to an impressive victory in the Distance Medley Relay. It was part of a splendid morning and afternoon for the host Bucks at War Memorial Field, as they brought everything they had to the CB West Relays.

Said Peralta, leadoff leg for the winning DMR: “It’s the only invitational we have here and especially with it being my senior year, it’s nice to get a win.”

CB West placed first in five events on the boys side and took another five in the girls events on a warm, breezy afternoon on their home track.

Donaher and Peralta helped push the Bucks to third in the 4×1,600 and still had enough juice left to come back later and help power the winning DMR.

“I felt pretty good. I was like, man, I feel like I’m running a lot faster than I was in the 4xmile, and I wound up running a faster split in that, so that was nice,” said Donaher. “I rarely tough out another race after the first one.”

Peralta (1,200), Troy Sudall (400), Luca Testani (800) and Donaher (1,600) combined their efforts for a winning time of 11 minutes, 7.05 seconds, with Souderton Area (11:36.06) and Central Bucks South (11:40.20) charging to second and third.

The Bucks would also win the shuttle hurdles, sprint medley, 4×400 and high jump in a balanced performance.

“We just came out here to have fun and like Will said, it’s the only invitational we have. So the nerves weren’t as high. We just came out, tried to run a good time, a good PR,” said Testani. “And we got the job done.”

The Germantown Academy boys had quite a day in the field, led by Gavin Fountain’s shot put of 52 feet, 1.25 inches and Blake Brown’s triple jump of 43-4.25 inches. The Pats took first in the shot, discus and triple.

Megan Blue’s long jump of 17-1.5 helped the Bucks win the event, and West finished off the day by sweeping the 4×400 relays.
