Souderton Area rolls past rival North Penn
FRANCONIA — Souderton Area is scoring from anywhere on the field.
For instance, Seth Grossman’s buzzer beater on Thursday was almost outside the district.
“I kind of saw there were three seconds left so I just threw it,” Grossman said of his 80-yard strike just before the halftime break. “Whatever happened happened…And it went in.”
Unofficially the longest goal in Souderton history, the lightning strike sent Big Red screaming into halftime.
“I was shocked,” Grossman said smiling. “I think it got everyone excited and got us ready for the second half.”
The score extended Souderton’s lead to 5-1 at halftime and Big Red went on to a convincing 14-1 victory over the Knights in a Suburban One League National Conference game.
Souderton raised its record to 8-3 with a big home clash coming up on Saturday against Wissahickon. The young Knights are now 4-7 with a home game against Pennsbury slated for Tuesday.
Calden Myers scored early for the Knights to give them a push. But it was to be Souderton’s day on the attack: Grossman had a hat trick and dished out two assists to help lead the way.
“I know we were still a little high coming off that win over CB East the other day,” Grossman said. “So we were a little slow to get off. But once we started getting the offense going, it was good. The offense got going and the defense locked it down.”
Tyson Bui also scored three and added an assist for Big Red.
Souderton had a 3-1 lead late in the first half and then the goals began to come in bunches. Ty Quintois, John Martin and Sean Landis all scored twice to contribute to a high-octane attack.
Connor Howard faced a lot of shots, securing 12 saves for North Penn. Matt Malanga stopped six shots for Big Red, who have now won four straight since an 11-9 setback to CB West on April 11.
