DLN roundup: Downingtown West boys lacrosse team rolls to victory
Boys’ Lacrosse
Downingtown West 19, Sun Valley 2 >> Bret Bergey, Bram Monroe and Ty Raines each scored four goals for the Whippets. Steven Wogram (two goals, one assist), Carter Grear (one goal, one assist), Thomas Venzie (one goal, two assists), Owen Chicosky (one goal), Luke Roosevelt (one goal) and Freddie Givens-Sadler (one goal) rounded out the West scoring. At faceoff, Dom Varano won nine of 12 and Ryan Merrick won eight of 12.
Conestoga 11, Garnet Valley 9 >> Clif Hawkins, Wade Beckstrom and Drew Merschel each had a hat trick for the Pioneers. Brody Eaton and Charlie Newhall also scored for Conestoga, and goalie Mikey Johnson recorded 19 saves for the Pioneers.
West Chester Henderson 10, Oxford 4 >> Ryan Prete had a hat trick for the Warriors, while teammates Sean Surowiec, Braeden O’Connell and Seamus Murphy each scored two goals. Giules DiLiberto recorded nine saves for West Chester Henderson.
Kennett 13, Bishop Shanahan 6 >> Zach Hulme scored six goals and dished out two assists to lead the Blue Demons, while Bo Freebery (three goals, four assists) and Colin Jung (three goals, one assist) also had productive scoring days for Kennett. Nate Bracken scored four goals for the Eagles, and teammate Ruan Weber chipped in with two goals. Ronan Miller won 14 of 20 faceoffs.
Girls’ Lacrosse
West Chester Rustin 12, Plymouth Whitemarsh 6 >> The Golden Knights were led by Lola Flynn (two goals, one assist), Jordyn Krafchick (four goals, one assist), Elizabeth McGurk (two goals, one assist), Sammie McLaughlin (two goals, one assist), Izzie Mintz (two goals) and Ava Panetta (seven saves).
Downingtown East 5, Great Valley 4 >> Karyn Michaels scored the game-winner, and tallied one additional goal and an assist. Other goal-scorers for the Cougars were Cameron Yard, Riley Marks and Jayne Michaels (who also collected three ground balls). Eileen Hewitt collected three ground balls and caused four opponent turnovers. Lexie Barton collected two ground balls and caused two turnovers, and goalie Addy Mulhern recorded eight saves for the Cougars.
West Chester Henderson 9, Oxford 7 >> For the Hornets, junior Alexis Reinard tallied three goals and two assists, caused three opponent turnovers and won three draw controls. Olivia Voss, Ava McGlothlin, Kylie Quin and Ava Soucek also scored for Oxford. Hornet senior Mackenzie Clark cuased three opponent turnovers, and Oxford goalie Paige Boone recorded 11 saves.
Baseball
Friends’ Central 4, Westtown School 3 >> In this eight-inning contest, pitcher Jack Ingino started for Westtown (4-5 overall, 2-1 Friends’ Schools League) and hurled six scoreless innnings, allowing only three hits and striking out 13. Ingino also went went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and two walks.
