Agnes Irwin’s Caroline Chisholm is Main Line Girls Athlete of the Week (April 10-16)
The sophomore midfielder has been a key factor behind the Owls’ fast start (5-0 as of April 10), which included a victory against a nationally-ranked Archbishop Carroll squad. In the Owls’ first five games, Chisholm tallied 15 goals, won 10 draw controls and caused seven opponent turnovers. She has been selected as a member of the 2022 and 2021 American Select 2025 Pennsylvania Teams. Chisholm also is a standout field hockey player, and is listed as one of the Top 50 Players to Watch in the national high school Class of 2025 per MaxFieldHockey.com. “Caroline is a gifted athlete,” said Agnes Irwin lacrosse head coach Lauren Wray. Off the field at Agnes Irwin, Chisholm belongs to the school’s Athletics Association, is a tour guide and is a member of PALs.
Q: What do you think was the biggest key(s) to your team’s win against Archbishop Carroll?
A: I think one of the main reasons we beat Carroll was that we played as a team throughout the course of the game. Our defense played phenomenally, especially our goalie Maggie Mullen and our offense capitalized in many important moments. It was a total team effort!
Q: What do you think are the biggest keys to winning a draw control?
A: A big part of winning the draw for us so far this year has been communicating with each other on the circle. For us knowing where the draw is going to go has really helped us win some critical possessions. I have been playing with some of these girls for more than five years now and I think that the connections that we all share on and off the field have also really helped us in this area.
Q: You played attacker last spring. What aspect of your game did you work on most during the past off-season?
A: Throughout the offseason, my teammates and I spent a lot of time working on our shooting and dodging. Along with that I also play field hockey which has really helped my defensive footwork and stamina.
Q: Tell us a little about your start in lacrosse. What originally attracted you to lacrosse?
A: I started playing for my township team where I played with Maggie Mullen, our goalie now. I think the main reason I started was that a lot of my friends were also playing.
Q: Who have been your most important lacrosse mentors, and what was the most important thing each of them taught you?
A: One of the greatest things about Agnes Irwin is how close our lacrosse team always is. Last year being my first year I really looked up to the seniors. They were such a good group of role models on and off the field and taught me many things.
Q: You wear uniform jersey No. 45 for Agnes Irwin lacrosse – is there a reason you picked that number?
A: I also wear No. 45 for Agnes Irwin field hockey, so I thought it would be nice to have them match.
