The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media Boys Basketball 2022-2023 All-Area Teams
The 2022-23 boys basketball season saw teams in The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media area find success at the league, district and state levels.
Plymouth Whitemarsh brought home three championships – winning the Suburban One League Liberty Division, SOL Tournament and District 1 Class-6A titles. Central Bucks East won the SOL Colonial Division and William Tennent finished atop the SOL Freedom Division.
Dock Mennonite Academy won five titles – two early-season tournaments, the Bicentennial Athletic League regular season and postseason and the District 1-2A championship. The Pioneers reached the PIAA-2A state quarterfinals.
In the Pioneer Athletic Conference, Upper Merion won the Frontier Division and made a run to the league championship game. The Vikings advanced to the second round of the District 1-5A playoffs.
Archbishop Wood reached the Philadelphia Catholic League semifinals at the Palestra and the PIAA-6A state semifinals. The Vikings finished third in District 12-6A.
While teams were working towards championships, players were displaying their talent. The top players are recognized as members of the 2022-23 The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media All-Area Teams.
First Team
Dean Coleman-Newsome, Archbishop Carroll >> Coleman-Newsome earned second-team All-Catholic honors after averaging 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists for the Patriots. The senior finished with 972 career points despite missing his entire sophomore season.
Jalil Bethea, Archbishop Wood >> Bethea led the Philadelphia Catholic League in scoring with 23.2 points per game. The junior earned league MVP honors and led the Vikings to the PIAA-6A state semifinals. He made 85 three-pointers at a 45.7% clip.
Carson Howard, Archbishop Wood >> Howard started all 28 games for Archbishop Wood this season and averaged 11.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. The senior surpassed the 1,000-point milestone this year and led the Catholic League with a 68.8 field goal percentage.
Qudire Bennett, Plymouth Whitemarsh >> Bennett averaged 20.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists for the District 1-6A champions. The senior surpassed the 1,000-point mark this season and finished with 1,362 career points – seventh all-time in Colonials history.
Chase Coleman, Plymouth Whitemarsh >> Coleman scored 17.8 points per game and delivered in big moments for the Colonials. In the district playoffs, the junior paced PW with 26 points in a two-point win over Penn Wood and 19 points in a six-point win over Lower Merion.
