DLN Roundup: Carter throws a one-hitter for Whippets
In Ches-Mont softball action on Monday, Downingtown West’s Addison Carter hurled a one-hit, complete game effort to lead the Whippets past Oxford 3-0. Carter fanned 11 batters and did not issue a walk. Darby Weller and Taylor Hendricks each had two hits to pace West. Molly Friel had the Hornets’ only hit and pitcher Cece Figueroa surrendered two earned runs in six innings of action.
West Chester Rustin 18, West Chester Henderson 0 (4 innings) >> Emily Gillis faced 16 batters and notched a no-hitter for the Knights. Kelly Fricker (4-for-4, home run) paced Rustin, but got plenty of help from teammates Jenna Crafts, Taylor Kuhn and Paige Bentley each added three hits.
Coatesville 17, Great Valley 2 (3 innings) >> The Raiders scored a dozen runs in the second and third innings to cap off a triumph over the Patriots. Ashlynn Sherman went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and five RBI’s while also picking up the win in the circle. Jenna Rutledge added three hits including a double with three runs batted in, and Paige Wilkins chipped in with three hits, including a homer. Taylor Sherry and Olivia Springer also homered for Coatesville. Ava Steinberg had a pair of home runs for the Patriots.
Unionville 13, Avon Grove 3 >> The ’Horns turned a one-run lead into a blowout by scoring 10 runs in the third and fourth innings. Shannon Megill (3-for-3 with a homer and 3 RBI), Jillian Heimberger 2-3, 3 RBI) and Catherine Stone (3-3, 4 RBI) topped Unionville’s attack. Ana DiCampli blasted a two-run home run to pace the Red Devils.
Baseball
Coatesville 14, Great Valley 2 (5 innings) >> Pitcher Ben Jones went the distance, struck out nine and scattered four hits for the Raiders. Dylan Jeffers and Spencer Ferguson each had two hits and Joe Mazzone drove in a pair for Coatesville. Joey Newell had two hits and Ryan Barrow had two RBI for the Patriots.
Oxford 8, Downingtown West 5 >> Trailing by a run, the Hornets rallied for five runs in the fifth inning and went on to edge the Whippets. Landen Rozich had two hits and got the win pitching in relief. Quinn Henicle and Jay Slater each notched two hits for West.
Unionville 3, Avon Grove 2 >> The Longhorns broke a 2-2 deadlock with a winning run in the top of the seventh inning. Drew Dellcollo registered two hits and two RBI for Unionville.
Westtown 10, Kings Christian 0 (5 innings) >> Starter Liam Sayer’s no-hitter highlighted the first win of the season for the Moose (1-4 overall). Sayer fanned eight and walked none, and at the plate he delivered two doubles and drove in three runs.
Boys Lacrosse
Conestoga 13, Central Bucks South 6 >> The Pioneers prevailed in non-league action. Adrien Grove led the way with three goals, and Clif Hawkins added two goals and two assists for ’Stoga. Wade Beckstrom and Drew Merschel each chipped in with two goals and an assist, and Holt McGinn won 10 faceoffs for the Pioneers.
Kennett 13, Coatesville 11 >> The Blue Demons outscored the host Raiders 8-2 in the first and third quarters, and it was enough for Kennett to survive a Coatesville comeback in Ches-Mont action. Zach Hulme led the way with five goals, Bo Freebery had four goals and Colin Jung and Marco Bird had two apiece for Kennett. Jake Van Orden led the Raiders with four goals and two assists. Owen Ellis and Derek Cooper added three goals apiece for Coatesville, and Magnus Clouser delivered five assists.
Bishop Shanahan 17, Sun Valley 3 >> In a Ches-Mont clash, the Eagles cruised to a 10-3 halftime lead and coasted to the win. Joe Devine’s seven goals paced Shanahan. Devin Mullen (four goals and two assists) and Colin Gaffney (goal, four assists) were also offensive standouts for the Eagles. In addition, Ronan Miller won 12 of 16 faceoffs.
Downingtown West 15, West Chester Henderson 8 >> The Whippets led 5-2 after one quarter and did not trail the rest of the way in a Ches-Mont contest. Bram Monroe registered four goals, and teammates Bret Bergey and Eddie Moore contributed two goals and multiple assists for West. Sean Surowiec (four goals), Logan Goodwin (two goals) and Max Abrahams (two goals) were the top scorers for the Warriors.
Girls Lacrosse
Kennett 16, Coatesville 3 >> Marissa Herring and Jaylee Kilgore scored four goal apiece to power the Blue Devils past the Raiders. McKayla Kelly and Mary Caroll added three goals and two goals, respectively for the winners.
Bishop Shanahan 19, Sun Valley 0 >> The Eagles raced out to an 11-0 halftime lead and cruised to a Ches-Mont win. Ten different Shanahan players scored, led by Silvia Baptista’s four goals and three each by Annabelle Wiedel and Amelia Benner. Goaltender Izzy Sawicki made three saves and notched the shutout for the Eagles.
Conestoga 12, Great Valley 9 >> The Pioneers improved to 6-1 with a non-league victory. Kate Galica and Kiki Liebezeit led the way with three goals each. Ellie Wisch and Chloe Brown added two goals apiece, and Brown chipped in two assists for Conestoga.
West Chester Rustin 18, West Chester East 10 >> The Golden Knights received goals from a half dozen players in Ches-Mont action. Elizabeth McGurk led all goal scorers with six, and Jordyn Krafchick added four goals and four assists for Rustin. Izzie Mintz chipped in two goals, and Julia McCall and Kaylee Vancladricken added two goals each for the wining squad.
Unionville 15, Oxford 9 >> The Longhorns outlasted the Hornets in a conference tilt. Alexis Reinard had a hand in all but one Oxford goal (four goals, four assists) and teammate Olivia Voss notched three goals.
