Girls wrestling: Pottstown’s Robinson wins regional title
Pottstown’s Xiyah Robinson won the 170-pound title in the Eastern Regional girls wrestling tournament at Parkland High School on Sunday while six other local wrestlers placed as well.
Robinson pinned Penn Wood’s Mariyatta Idriss in 3:30 in the final to claim gold. Robinson pinned Easton’s Jamile Ramirez-Galvez in 1:31 to reach the final.
Vida Torres also reached the title bout at 235, but was pinned by Panther Valley’s Brenda Banks in 47 seconds to become the runner-up in her weight class. Trinity Rhodes-Fisher was Pottstown’s third place-winner, having taken fifth at 136.
Boyertown had two on the podium. Keyra Seville placed sixth in the 100-pound field while Maddie Rapp took eighth at 118. Rapp pinned Bensalem’s Mia Winkler in 4:39 before being pinned herself by Pocono Mountain West’s Autumn Kanas in 1:32.
Like Boyertown, Upper Merion saw two individual place-winners. Ava Akacha took fourth place at 130 after making pins in 1:06 and 4:00 respectively before losing via 21-4 tech fall to East Stroudsburg’s Ruth Ansah, the eventual runner-up to Harry S Truman’s Isabella Dias. Kyla Riley was the Vikings’ other medalist, having taken eighth place at 112.
