Main Line roundup (Jan. 30): Haverford girls, Radnor, LM basketball squads sparkle
The Haverford High School girls’ basketball team improved to 19-0 with a 36-33 win against Conestoga Jan. 28. Caroline Dotsey scored 16 points as the Fords earned the 300th career win for head coach Lauren Pellicane. It was the second narrow win for the Fords (13-0 Central) over the Pioneers this season, with a two-point overtime win in December. Sky Newman tossed in eight points, and Mollie Carpenter and Rian Dotsey added six points apiece.
The Radnor High School boys’ basketball team improved to 18-0 with a 62-33 win against Springfield Jan. 26, led by Jackson Hicke’s 27 points and eight rebounds. The Cougars were within eight points at half, but a 26-5 margin in the third quarter by the Raptors (18-0, 12-0 Central) blew the game wide open. Charlie Thornton tallied nine points, and Danny Rosenblum added seven points and four assists for Radnor.
The Lower Merion boys’ basketball team (17-2), ranked No. 2 in the PIAA District 1 6A power rankings, defeated Upper Darby, 71-56, Jan. 28. The Aces were led by Sam Brown (18 points on just 10 shot attempts). Justin Poles (15 points), Sam Wright (12 points, nine assists) and Jordan Meekins (10 points, five rebounds).
Two days earlier, the Aces defeated Haverford High, 70-51, in the Hope Classic, which raises awareness and money for Angelman’s syndrome. Wright led the scoring with 21 points, and added eight rebounds and five assists, and Owen McCabe missed just one shot en route to 15 points.

Swimming
In a key Central League matchup Jan. 27, Conestoga remained undefeated in the league after defeating Haverford High School. The Pioneer boys prevailed by a 102-79 score, while the Conestoga girls earned a 92-86 win. Individual winners for the Conestoga boys included Brock Whitaker (200 free, 1:44.71 and 100 fly, 51.95), John Yeniay (200 IM, 2:03.57 and 500 free, 5:01.39), Jake Wang (50 free, 21.57 and 100 breast, 58.51) and Hutch Wood (100 free, 51.34). Individual winners for the Pioneer girls included Audrey Laganelli (200 free, 1:55.63 and 100 free, 53.41), Naomi Furman (200 IM, 2:15.13), Lily Robinson (50 free, 24.91), Avery Hillier (1-meter diving, 252.70) and Maddie Fox (100 fly, 1:00.51).
Haverford School defeated Penn Charter, 103-78, Jan. 24. Ford first-place finishers included Zack Oswald (200 medley relay, 200 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay), Connor Simpkins (200 medley relay, 100 back), Max Marr (200 medley relay, 100 breast, 200 free relay), Evan Boratto (200 medley relay, 200 IM, 100 free), AJ Rosenberger (diving), Cameron Smith (100 free, 400 free relay), Isaiah Shuchman (200 free relay), Brandon Block (50 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay) and Eddie Kohn (400 free relay).

Girls’ basketball
Academy of Notre Dame defeated Agnes Irwin, 60-37, Jan. 27. Lizzie Halligan scored 19 points for the Irish and teamate Annie Greek chipped in with 17. Leading scorers for the Owls were Simone Harvey with 14 points and Gabrielle Seibert with nine points.
Barrack Hebrew Academy (14-7) defeated Kohelet, 71-33, onday. The Cougars were led by Eden Singer (25 points) and Mikayla Trajtenberg (18 points). Two days earlier, the Cougars defeated Abington Friends, 50-16. Singer scored 19 points and Trajtenberg added 11.
Conestoga defeated Garnet Valley, 45-40, Jan. 26. The Pioneers (14-3) were led by Janie Preston (14 points, six rebounds), Ryann Jennings (12 points, six rebounds, three steals) and Marisa Francione (10 points, five rebounds, three assists).
Merion Mercy Academy lost to Villa Maria Acadey, 52-30, Monday. Mary Kate Gray led the Golden Bears with 18 points.
Boys’ basketball
Episcopal Academy lost to Germantown Academy, 50-41, Jan. 17. Calvin Szoradi led the Churchmen with 11 points and TJ Lamb chipped in with 10 points.
Haverford School defeated Perkiomen School, 53-45, Jan. 25. KJ Carson scored 24 points for the Fords (including five treys), and teammate Luke Rasmussen chipped in with 12 points.
Malvern Prep defeated Haverford School, 74-57, Jan. 27. Andrew Phillips scored 22 points for the Friars, and teammmate Ryan Williams added 16. Rowan Miller chipped in with 10 points for Malvern. Luke Rasmussen led the Fords with 19 points, while Billy Rayer chipped in with 15 points and Duke Cloran added 10.
Wrestling
Episcopal Academy defeated Germantown Friends, 66-15, Jan. 24. EA pins were recorded by Jack Signor (113 pounds), Zane Miller-Swatski (138), Akira Heath (165), Dorian Dabney (175), Michael Minicozzi (190) and Victor Coleman (285).
The Churchmen also defeated Friends’ Central, 59-6, Jan. 24. EA pins were recorded by Danny Hopkins (106), Signor (113) and Vern Holley (215).
Haverford School defeated Germantown Academy, 58-24, Jan. 27. For the Fords, Billy Brosko (285 pounds), Jac Campbell (144 pounds) and Matt Hoban (132 pounds) won by fall. Haverford’s Jay McDonnell at 126 pounds won by major decision, 13-4.
Two days earlier, the Fords defeated Devon Prep, 54-18. Haverford recorded four falls – Hoban (133 pounds), Ian Thomas (139), Campbell (145) and Gabe Danisi (152).
The Fords also defeated Archbishop Carroll, 47-24, Jan. 25. Ford pins came from McDonnell (127 pounds), Campbell (145), Danisi (152) and Matt Brosko (172).
