The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media 2022 Field Hockey All-Area teams
For the second straight year, Gwynedd Mercy Academy made a deep run in the postseason. The Monarchs reached the District 1-2A championship game and the PIAA-2A state semifinals this season after winning the district and reaching the state final last fall.
And for the second straight season, Gwynedd Mercy Academy lands three players on The Reporter/Times Herald/Mongtomery Media Field Hockey All-Area First Team.
GMA goalie Lilly Sweeney and midfielder Sydney Mandato are on the all-area first team for the second consecutive year and are joined by defender Catherine Fitzgerald. The three seniors were first team all-state selections and helped the Monarchs win the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies title. They outscored opponents 36-7 in seven postseason games.
Souderton and Central Bucks West finished as the top two teams in the Suburban One League Colonial Division and each has two players on the All-Area First Team. All-Area Player of the Year Ang Borisow finished the season with 15 goals and nine assists for the league champion Indians while Ava Jones had 34 goals and nine assists. West’s Lilly Cosner totaled six goals and seven assists while Aida Ierubino had 16 goals and 11 assists. All four players were first team all-state.
Central Bucks South’s Lily Haag also made the all-area first team from the SOL Colonial. The first team all-state defender also contributed offensively as the corner inserter, tallying four goals and eight assists.
Elsewhere in the SOL, Wissahickon’s Ella Hummel earned a spot on the first team. Hummel was the Trojans MVP during an undefeated regular season that resulted in an SOL Liberty championship. The first team all-state forward had nine goals and 21 assists.
Methacton’s Elise DeWan is a first-team selection for the second straight season. The four-year varsity player and Penn State commit was a key piece of the Warriors defensive unit and also helped spark offensive attacks. She contributed to offensive and defensive corners and is a first team all-state selection.
Archbishop Carroll forward Sienna Golden also returns to the first team after earning a spot in 2021. The junior Ohio State commit scored 48 goals for Philadelphia Catholic League and District 12-2A champion Patriots.
