DLN local roundup: Undefeated Villa Maria basketball squad defeats Notre Dame
The Villa Maria Academy girls basketball team improved to 7-0 with a 54-47 win against Academy of Notre Dame Thursday. The Hurricanes got off to an 11-4 lead, then outscored the Irish 19-13 in the final period. Villa Maria featured a balanced attack, with six players scoring six points or more, and no one tallying more than nine. Leading scorers were Alice Nash (nine points), Clare Cronley (nine), Marah McHugh (nine), Elaina Guerzon (eight), Carly Catania (seven) and Ava Irvine (six).
Unionville 46, Great Valley 25 >> Leading the way for the Longhorns was Riley Angstadt with 12 points, Elle Johnson with 10 points, and both Milana Amoss and Shannon Megill with eight points. Gia Sioutis led the Patriots with nine points.
Conestoga 70, Upper Darby 34 >> The Pioneers were led by freshman Ryann Jennings (14 points), sophomore Ruth Lanouette (9 points, five steals, three rebounds), junior Marisa Francione (seven points, four rebounds, three assists), freshman Maggie Neary (seven points, three rebounds), sophomore Janie Preston (seven points, six rebounds, three assists), junior Arielle LePage (seven points) and junior Katrina Valencia (six points, four assists, three steals). The Pioneers made 27 field goals on 18 assists.
West Chester Henderson 53, Oxford 39 >> The Warriors were led by Jackie Shea (eight points, nine rebounds) and Whitney Evans (21 points).

West Chester East 79, Avon Grove 48 >> CJ Cochran led the Vikings with 31 points, including 13 field goals. Jack Gallagher chipped in with 13 points for East, while Jack Kushner tallied eight points for the victors. The Red Devils’ scoring was led by Josh Cox (12 points) and Kyle Anthony (11 points, including three treys).
Coatesville 74, Downingtown East 50 >> The Warriors featured a balanced scoring attack, led by Dior Kennedy (15 points) and Jeremiah Marshall (12 points). Connor Shanahan led the Cougars with 26 points.
