Main Line roundup (Oct. 16): Lower Merion volleyball wins Bishop Shanahan Quad Tournament
The Lower Merion High School girls’ volleyball team won the Bishop Shanahan Quad Tournament Oct. 15 by defeating Archbishop Carroll 3-1 (25-13, 20-25, 25-6, 25-11) and Sacred Heart Academy 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-18). The Aces were led by Claire Hamilton (31 kills, 12 digs, 7 aces, 3 blocks), Brooke Johnson (19 kills, 16 digs, 2 aces), Tianna Stavrianos (60 assists, 22 digs, 4 aces), Zoe Brown (28 digs, 2 aces, 6 assists), Norah Cotter (11 kills, 3 blocks), Jenna DeTemple (11 kills, 4 blocks, 3 aces), Camille Heaton (10 kills) and Rachel Cheng (14 digs, 2 aces).

Girls’ soccer
Agnes Irwin tied powerful Springside Chestnut Hill, 1-1, Oct. 14. The Owls’ lone goal was scored by 8th grader Gabby Bongiorno.
Episcopal Academy defeated Germantown Academy, 2-0, Oct. 14 on Senior Night. Goals were scored by Bridget Dempsey and Maya Bright, with assists from Bright and Kate Dente. For EA (10-2), it was the team’s seventh shutout, and in this one, the goalies were Maya Naimoli and Faith Leake.
Merion Mercy Academy lost to Villa Joseph Marie, 6-1, Oct. 12. Ella Donnelly scored the Golden Bears’ lone goal.
Villa Maria Academy (14-1 overall, 8-1 AACA) defeated Nazareth Academy, 1-0, Oct. 14. Kaelyn Wolfe scored the goal, assisted by Kate Kemmerley. The Hurricanes also received standout play at midfield by Caroline Capaldi and Emma Cassalia.
Boys’ soccer
Episcopal Academy (8-3, 2-2) lost to Springside Chestnut Hill, 2-1, Oct. 14. Eddie Jones scored EA’s goal, assisted by Balthazar Buccini, and Episcopal goalie Akira Heath recorded four saves.
Field hockey
Academy of Notre Dame (10-2 overall, 5-0 InterAc) defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 3-1, Oct. 12. Saylor Milone scored two goals, and Aly Maguire tallied one goal and one assist. ND goalies Mia McCloskey and Alex Duff combined for four saves.
Agnes Irwin lost to Springside Chestnut Hill, 4-1, Oct. 14. Caroline Chisholm tallied the Owls’ goal.
Archbishop Carroll improved to 6-1 in the Catholic League and 10-6 overall with a 9-0 win over Egan Oct. 12. Carroll was led by Sienna Golden’s five goals and two assists. Cate McConaghy added two goals, and Meg Sheridan and Bridget Grazel had one goal apiece. Kate O’Neill got the win in net with two saves.
Episcopal Academy defeated Agnes Irwin, 2-1, Oct. 11. EA goals were scored by Bella Notaro and Paige McMeekin, with an assist from Rebecca Bloch.
Girls’ volleyball
Academy of Notre Dame (10-5, 3-3) defeated Baldwin School, 3-0, Oct. 14, posting scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-13. Paityn Kehoe and Molly Morrow combined for 18 digs, with Kehoe also contributing six aces. Ali Czachor dished out 22 assists and recorded five aces..
Agnes Irwin lost to the Perkiomen School, 3-0, Oct. 14, posting scores of 19-25, 23-25 and 15-25. Seniors Sydney Chen and Anahla Thomas led the team with 8 and 6 kills respectively.
Baldwin School defeated George School, 3-0, Oct. 11, posting scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-13. The Polar Bears were led by Cynthia Huang (6 aces, 7 kills, 12 assists, 7 digs), Ryan Shelton (3 aces, 6 kills, 6 assists, 5 digs, 4 blocks), Joelle Pearlstein (2 aces, 8 kills, 7 digs), Bella Gillis (4 aces, 6 kills, 8 digs, 1 block), Anya Berlanska (1 ace, 2 assist, 8 digs) and Julie Brose (1 ace, 4 digs).
Girls’ tennis
Episcopal Academy defeated Baldwin School, 5-2, Oct. 14. For EA Carter Yearley won third singles in straight sets, and swept the doubles matches with Maggie Dugery/Izzy Rozes, Maggie Lo/Elizabeth Boruff, Michelle Jiang/Riya Mukherjee, and Shelby Pasternack/Velina Feuzue.
Cross country
Radnor junior Zoe Margolies placed fifth in the girls varsity race at the Central League Cross Country Championships Oct. 15. Her performance earned first team all-Central status for the season.
