PAC Doubles: Methacton placed a pair of teams in the semifinals on Friday. Defending PIAA 3A champs Hana Nouaime and Alice Liang lost just two games in two matches, defeating Boyertown’s Lauren Campbell/Lila Schmid 10-0 in second round and then dispatching Upper Perk’s Hope Thompson/Madelyn Dyer 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. The No. 3 seeds Morgan Coupe/Anika Suresh had a little more trouble, winning 10-3 in the first round against Pottsgrove’s Rachel Lilliendahl/Alaina Hathaway. Then the challenge came. Coupe and Suresh survived Perk Valley’s No. 6 seeds Smiki Satrusalya/Ananya Sudarshan 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 in a heated quarterfinal matchup. Nouaime and Liang will face the No. 4 seeds Spring-Ford’s Chloe Moore/Alexis Luo in the semis on Saturday, while Coupe and Suresh will face the No. 2 seeds Spring-Ford’s No. 1 team of Evelyn Mejia/Cady Krause.
Field hockey
Cardinal O’Hara 1, Archbishop Carroll 0, OT: The two best teams in the Catholic league went head to head with Ohara winning 1-0 in OT on a goal by Maeve Boston at the 8;32 mark on Friday. The defenses of both teams were terrific as were both goalies. The difference came on a goal scored by Boston off of a corner.
Girls soccer
Souderton 2, CB South 1: Freshman Sienna Stunkard scored for the third consecutive game and the Indians picked up the SOL Colonial win on Friday. Alexis Stefanowicz came through in the second half to deliver the gamewinner off a one-time pass fro Julia Decaro.
“Overall, a really great start to homecoming weekend for the girls, and the team should be happy about the way they have improved this season,” Souderton Head Coach Ian Smith said. “The goal is to take some of the things we have improved over the last few weeks and build upon them as we finish out the season.
Upper Moreland 1, Lower Moreland 0: Natalie Walton stopped 11 challenging saves in net as the Golden Bears escaped with the SOL Freedom win on Friday. Gracie Flank dished a pass to Kylie Wiest at the 50:31 mark and she did the rest for Upper Moreland.
Germantown Academy 3, Baldwin School 0: Isabella Casey, Sage Battisto and Madison Kerest scored the goals as the Patriots picked up the win on Friday. Ginny Weber and Gianna Grosso were credited with assists. Gabby Bowes recorded the clean sheet in net.
Hatboro-Horsham 4, Wissahickon 2: Kitty Randa scored two goals as the Hatters recorded the SOL Liberty win on Friday. Sarah Roesing and Sarah Boland also got goals for Hatboro-Horsham. Caroline Shegogue and Caitlyn Carpenter picked up assists.
Boys soccer
Spring-Ford 5, Methacton 2: Zach Willen and Braydon Ahlum each scored goals but the Warriors dropped the PAC Liberty contest on Friday. Aryaman Punshi also picked up an assist for Methacton. Wyatt Stemler made six saves in net.
Girls volleyball
Souderton 3, CR North 0: The Indians swept to victory (25-20, 25-10 and 25-16) behind 9 kills, 1 ace, 3 digs and 1 block from Teya McConaha. Also standing out for Souderton were Alli Sauerwald (3 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces), Kay Guessford (10 kills, 2 aces, 5 digs), Alexa Mazzeo (1 kill, 2 aces, 2 assists, 17 digs), Margaret Donnelly (5 aces, 8 assists, 2 digs) and Grace Boyd (16 assists, 4 digs, 1 kill).
Methacton 3, OJR 1: Kayla Ginther led the way with 15 kills and 11 digs as the Warriors (12-3, 8-3) picked up a four-set win (25-22, 23-25, 25-16 and 25-23). Mandy Baldwin added 10 kills and two aces, while Jacque Rizzuto had nine kills and one ace. The defense was anchored by Mianna Ly with 12 digs and Baldwin with 13.
