Villa Maria Academy’s Kaelyn Wolfe is Main Line Girls Athlete of the Week (Sept. 19-25)

The senior midfielder and second-year captain has scored two goals per game in each of the last five contests for the Hurricanes (7-0 as of Sept. 17). Last fall, she was runnerup for the AACA’s Most Valuable Soccer Player, scoring a school-record 21 goals and dishing out 20 assists in 20 games. The Penn State-bound senior, a first team All-Main Line girls’ soccer selection last year, is noted for her elite speed and her technical ability. She also plays soccer for Penn Fusion, and attended Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) national training camp this past summer in Portland, Oregon. Outside of the pitch, she plays lacrosse for Villa Maria, where she also is a member of Peer Ministry and SpeakUp.

Q: What do you think is the strongest part of your game? What part of your game have you worked on the most recently?

A: I think the strongest part of my game is my vision of the field. I watch a lot of soccer and I am always trying to improve my soccer IQ to help my team as much as possible. Recently I have been working on shooting and my shot placement the most, and my team has been working on combining together in the attack to be more dangerous.

Q: What do you think has been the key(s) to your success so far this season?

A: The key to our success has been playing as a unified team. Every player on the field for us is contributing majorly. Our chemistry also plays a role in our success and our close knit relationships.

Q: What is your favorite memory of the 2021 season?

A: I would say the first memory that came to my mind was beating Villa Joseph Marie last year 2-0 at home. This was our first time beating them in 10 years.

Q: Tell us a little about your start in soccer. Who have been your top soccer mentors, and what was the most important thing you learned from each of them?

A: I have been playing soccer since I was four years old, and I have been playing with Penn Fusion since I was about seven years old. My top soccer mentor is my dad, who played soccer at Temple. He always trains with me and gives me advice to help me on and off the field to improve.

Q: Tell us a little about your pre-game preparation the day of a game.

A: I hydrate and eat good throughout the day, and then I just like to listen to music and get focused and calm during warmup before playing.

Q: What is your favorite academic course at Villa Maria?

A: My current favorites are Sports Psychology and economics.
