Main Line roundup (Sept. 19): Lower Merion girls soccer squad off to stellar start

The Lower Merion High School girls soccer team mproved to 8-1 (as of Monday) with three wins in the week ending Sept. 18. The Aces defeated Harriton, Garnet Valley and WC Henderson.
LM’s offense was led by Elly Slenksy, Dylan Steinberg, and Grace Downey. The defense of Sadie Cohen, Alex Dore, Abby Braslow and Finley Hoffman was stellar. As of Monday, the Aces were in first place in the Central league and ranked No. 2 in District 1.

Academy of Notre Dame defeated Delaware Valley Chrsitian, 4-1, Monday. Jordan Elasser scored two goals and Tessa Crossed and Avery Hannah tallied one each. Abby Reger dished out three assists.
Agnes Irwin defeated Friends’ Central, 6-0, Sept. 16. Lily Fusco, Gabby Bongiorno, Kennedy Kelleher, Maya Johnson, Katie Repp and Rosa Huffman scored for the Owls (3-0).
Two days earlier, Agnes Irwin defeated Shipley, 4-1. Fusco scored two goals, while Bongiorno and Payton Quinones each tallied one goal for the Owls.
Episcopal Academy (girls) defeated Hill School, 7-0, Sept. 16. Maya Bright had a hat trick, and Kate Dente, Ava Roberts, Bridget Dempsey and Sydney Richter tallied one goal each.
The Episcopal Academy boys squad (3-1-2) defeated Hill School, 2-1, Sept. 16. Dylan Vengoechea scored his first varsity goal, and was assisted by David Knox. EA’s Jack Bonner also scored, assisted by Balthazar Buccini. EA goalie Akira Heath recorded four saves.

Field hockey
Academy of Notre Dame defeated Villa Maria, 4-0, Sept. 13, getting two goals from Saylor Milone and one each from Reese Czajkowski and Aly Maguire (asssited by Milone). The win boosted Notre Dame’s record to 2-2.
Agnes Irwin defeated Merion Mercy, 3-2, Sept. 16. Catie Holmes scored tow goals for the Owls, and Blake Stefan tallied once. Caroline Chisholm dished out two assists for Agnes Irwin and goalie Sara Davis recorded five saves.
Two days earlier, the Owls defeated Cardinal O’Hara, 3-2, in overtime. Chisholm had a hat trick and Davis recorded nine saves.
Archbishop Carroll defeated Bonner Prendergast, 10-0, Sept. 16. Sienna Golden exploded for six goals for Carroll (3-2 overall,d 2-0 Catholic League). Courtland Schumacherhad a hat trick, and Cate McConaghy had a goal and three assists. Goalie Arianna Hall recorded the shutout.
Episcopal Academy lost to Hill School, 5-2, Sept. 16. Charly Bruder and Elizabeth Hug scored goals for EA, and goalie Ryann Newcomb recorded nine saves.
Girls’ tennis
Academy of Notre Dame defeated Cardinal O’Hara, 5-2, Sept. 14, sweeping the doubles matches and winning at second singles (Ella Abramson). The victorious doubles teams were Sydney Batts/Chloe Smith (first doubles), Hailey Bodner/Abby Wolfington (second), Lilah Simpson/Marin Shanahan (third) and Emma Strid/Alexa Kish (fourth).
Delaware Valley Friends School earned a 4-0 victory over Kohelet Monday. Skylar Moore won 8-3 at first singles, Jules Kiernan won 8-5 at second singles and Mary Grace Pothen won 8-5 at third singles.
Episcopal Academy defeated Hill School, 6-1, Sept. 16. Carter Yearley won at second singles, and Michelle Jiang earned a win at third singles. Maggie Dugery/Izzy Rozes won at first doubles, 6-1, 6-1.
Two days earlier, EA fell to Lawrenceville, 5-2. Avery Morris won at second singles for EA in straight sets, and the first doubles combo of Maggie Dugery/Michelle Jiang also won in straight sets.
Radnor defeated Ridley, 7-0, Sept. 16, winning all three singles matches by the scores of 6-0, 6-0. Singles winners were Leina Ciarrocchi (first), Mia Xie (second) and Grace Gordon (third).
Girls’ volleyball
Academy of Notre Dame (4-2) defeated previously undefeated Plymouth Whitemarsh, 3-0, Sept. 16, posting scores of 25-21, 25 19, 25-16. Megan Dougherty and Maddi Brown combined for 16 kills while Molly Morrow and Katia Hemphill made 25 digs.
Agnes Irwin defeated George School, 3-1, Sept. 14, posting scores of 25-12, 25-14, 19-25, 25-15. The Owls were led by sophomore Grace Getz (9 kills, 25 digs) and senior Anahla Thomas (6 kills, 4 aces).
Baldwin School defeated Academy of the New Church, 3-0, Sept. 14, posting scores of 25-13, 25,10, 25-7. The Polar Bears were led by Bella Gillis (8 aces, 3 kills, 8 digs), Ryan Shelton (2 aces, 2 kills, 11 assists, 2 digs), Joelle Pearlstein (6 aces, 7 kills, 2 digs), Cynthia Huang (6 kills, 6 assists, 3 digs) and Zoe Ross (3 aces, 3 kills).
Coenstoga beat Marple Newtown, 3-0, Sept. 14, posting scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25 16. Junior libero Zeynep Dogan had 32 digs.
Merion Mercy Academy lost to Ridley, 3-2, Sept. 16, posting scores of 22-25, 27-29, 25-19, 25-18 and 13-15. Standouts for Merion Mercy included Molly Mishinkash (25 kills, 6 blocks, 6 aces) and Brynne Tomaszewski (43 assists, 4 kills).
Cross country
Agnes Irwin competed in a quad meet Sept. 13 against Penn Charter, host Germantown Academy and Baldwin, and the Owls’ Orchie Hasan finished in third place overall with a clocking of 22:21 on the GA course.
Episcopal Academy (boys) defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, Hill School and Germantown Academy in a quad meet Sept. 13, with EA runners capturing the top five places. The top five runners were Dakin Ebmeyer (17:54), Connor Hanrahan (17:54), Aidan McHugh (18:07), Michael Woolery (18:08) and Dawson French (18:18),
Episcopal Academy (girls) defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 18-43, Sept. 13. EA runners captured the first two places – Alex Gobran (22:48) and Joy Ying (24:06).
Friends’ Central junior Quin Stovall finished fifth in the Girls Championship Race at the Briarwood Invitational at Belmont Plateau Sept. 17 with a clocking of 21:14.41.
Sacred Heart Academy posted a 1-2 record in a quad meet at Gwynedd Mercy Academy Sept. 14, defeating Merion Mercy 24-34 and losing to Villa Maria and GMA. Sacred Heart’s Maya Walker finished in third place.
Water polo
Haverford School defeated Gonzaga, 16-10, Sept. 16. Ford contributors included goalie Jaiden Shuchman (7 saves, 2 assists, 1 steal), Henry Pennington (1 goal, 1 assist, 3 steals, 1 drawn ejection, 1 block), Alec DeLuca (3 goals, 3 assists, 1 steal), Luka Sekulic (6 goals, 3 steals, 1 drawn ejection, 1 block) and Luke Putter (4 goals, 2 assists, 2 steals).
