DLN Local Roundup: Downingtown West outlasts Bishop Shanahan in four sets

The Downingtown West girls volleyball team moved to 3-0 in the Ches-Mont League National Division and 4-2 overall as they upended Bishop Shanahan in four sets Thursday.

The scores were 20-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-23.

The Whippets were led by Camryn Tuffner’s 13 kills, 17 digs and three blocks. Darby Weller had five kills, 10 digs and two blocks, Emma Helveston collected six kills and seven blocks.

Bella Terra recorded 14 digs, Ava Brotze had four kills, Fallon Mitchel had three kills and three blocks and Mel Bowman registered 20 assists and three kills.

Unionville 3, WC Rustin 0 >> The Longhorns stayed unbeaten (8-0) with the 55-15, 25-10, 29-27 Ches-Mont American victory. Brianna Miller paced Unionville with 11 kills, while Maddy Lowe had 11 kills and six aces. Vivian Geiger recorded six kills, Olivia Harper had 18 assits and Delaney McCoy registered 15 assists. For the Golden Knights, Jane Nelson had 17 kills, Lauren Supplee supplied 10 digs and Kylie Root dished out 26 assists.

Sun Valley 3, WC East 1 >> The Vangurds captured the Ches-Mont match in four sets, 25-11, 23-25, 25-17, 25-16. For the Vikings, Alexa Mork registered 19 kills and eight digs. Lauren Cuskey had eight kills, Elliet Manning collected 28 assists and Izzy Byrne added 23 digs.

Great Valley 2, Kennett 1 >> Ethan Pfau scored twice as the Patriots (5-1) edged the Blue Demons (4-2) in the Ches-Mont American contest. Pfau opened the scoring for Great Valley with 11 minutes left in the first half. Pfau scored again eight minutes into the second half as he turned in a rebound from a shot by Rikin Rakesh. Kennett cut the deficit in half midway through the half.

Zach Kilpatrick had two goals and an assist, while Matt Lohr had a goal and a helper. Matt Grier, Ryan Hinkle, and Joseph Mathew (penalty kick) had single tallies.

Great Valley 3, Kennett 2 >> The Patriots jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead en route to the Ches-Mont American victory. Nadia Nemeth had two goals and Keara Lawless added a single tally. CJ Herring and Megan Ward scored for the Blue Demons (1-2, 4-3).

Golf
Downingtown East 221, Coatesville 237 >> Charlie Thompson had a 42 and Joey Gamgemi added a 43 as the Cougars improved to 5-2 with the Ches-Mont National win. Jackson Lucca carded a 44, Charlie Barnello a 45 and Bryan Wright had 47. Carson Holmes paced the Red Raiders with a 38.
