Mercury Roundup (April 25): McGowan’s 5-hit gem deals Phoenixville its first loss
Baseball
Perkiomen Valley 5, Phoenixville 0: The Perkiomen Valley baseball team believes it has just as good of a shot as anybody to win the Pioneer Athletic Conference this season.
On Monday night, the Vikings proved it, taking down previously undefeated Phoenixville, 5-0, in a matchup of two of the league’s premiere pitchers.
Senior righthander Andrew McGowan twirled 6.2 shutout innings for PV before Justin Stasyk recorded the final out of the marquee win.
“Pretty much all I’ve got to say is, ‘Why not us this year?’ The PAC’s wide open,” McGowan said.

Nathan Fisher had a three-hit day for the Vikings (6-3 overall, 5-3 PAC, 3-3 Liberty), who were coming off a late-inning defeat against Spring-Ford last Friday.
McGowan also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBI, and Michael Poruban and Zach Fusco doubled has part of two-hit days for PV. Sam Marsh had two hits for Phoenixville (7-1, 7-1 PAC, 5-0 Frontier).
“It felt good just coming off Spring-Ford after we lost late in that game, coming back on a Monday after prom weekend, still playing hard and still playing well,” McGowan said.
