Souderton offense keeps rolling in win over Plymouth Whitemarsh
FRANCONIA >> Reiley Knize poured in four goals Friday to help Souderton bring a climactic close to a high-powered week of lacrosse.
“After a long week, it felt good,” the senior said. “We had three games this week so it was a nice end to the week. We’re on a little bit of a streak right now so it feels good.”
Big Red streaked to 4-2 on the season with a 13-5 victory over the Colonials.
“I think we read their defense pretty well and we were able to get through it,” said Knize, one of five Souderton players with multiple goals. “We executed on a lot of our new plays. So that was good for us.
“We’ve been executing really well.”
In Big Red’s three victories over Lansdale Catholic, Central Bucks East and PW this week, the Indians poured in 23, 19 and 13 goals.
“I think we’ve just been working hard, getting people different looks, putting people in places where they can be successful, and I think we definitely executed that today,” Souderton coach Claudia LaMarca said. “It was fun to watch.”
Big Red bolted to a 5-1 lead on its home turf.
Souderton controlled the ball most of the way and kept finding ways to get to the net.
Thanks to a goal by Angela Borisow with just 15 seconds left in the half, Big Red sprinted into the break with a 7-3 advantage.
Souderton then went on a 4-1 run to start the second half, putting the game away.
Lauren Hallman, Yasmin Khatri, Angela Borisow and Peyton Clemmer all scored two goals each for Big Red. Avery Farina, before leaving with an injury in the second half, added a goal for the Indians in a balanced attack that has scored in waves.
“They really played for each other today,” LeMarca said.
The Colonials’ offense gained steam as the game went on, keyed by Meghan’s Wendler’s two goals and one each by Brianna Austin, Carleigh Jones and Olivia Reilly.
“You can’t turn the ball over and expect to come back,” Colonials coach Ellen K. Reilly said. “We work so hard on defense and then we lose it on the attacking end. Give Souderton credit. They did a great job. Their defense pressured our younger kids, and with more experience, the girls will learn how to deal with that.”
Souderton is in action again Wednesday, on the road against Bensalem, and PW hosts Springfield Montco Monday.
