Unionville, Avon Grove boys volleyball teams looking to move up
The Avon Grove and Unionville High School boys’ volleyball teams are looking to move up in the Independent Volleyball League this spring. Here’s an early-season look at the Red Devils and Longhorns as they begin their spring 2022 campaign:
Unionville, which posted a 14-4 record last spring, has four key returning players in senior setter Kristian Tolbert, senior outside hitters Erik Chou and Jack Casten, and sophomore defensive specialist James Anderson.
Other Longhorns to watch include junior right side hitter Cooper Bruce, freshman libero Austin Edmunds, senior middle hitter Jake Kammeier and junior middle hitter Kaleb Hecksher.
“I am excited to see what we can do this year,” said Unionville coach Drew Moister. “We are looking stronger this point of the season than in years past.”
Avon Grove, which compiled a 3-13 record last year, returns a solid group of seniors this spring, including middle hitter Drew Nutt, right side hitter Lucas Petrones, setter Cameron Brown, defensive specialists
Ryan Gaydos and Caleb DeFrank and outside hitter Sean Jacobs.
Other Red Devils to watch include senior outside hitter Yair Carrilo, freshman setter Aidan Petrones, senior right side hitter Mike Graham, sophomore outside hitter Josh Puffenberger and junior middle hitter Josh McGurl.
“We hope to have a fun-filled season – our team is made up of mostly seniors who have been playing together for the last three years, minus their sophomore year due to COVID,” said Avon Grove coach Chantel Brown. “They are looking to end their high school careers on a high note, beating their record from last year and competing against their rivals Unionville multiple times this season.”
