Archbishop Carroll’s Taylor Wilson is Main Line Girls Athlete of the Week

The junior 6-foot forward, a three-year starter and All-Catholic League selection, averaged 14.5 ppg and 4.6 rpg this season for the powerful Patriots girls basketball squad, who went undefeated in the Catholic League during the regular season. She received second team All-Main Line girls’ basketball honors last year, as a sophomore. Carroll girls basketball head coach Renie Shields said, “Taylor’s contributions, both on offense and defense, led to our success this year – she worked hard to improve in these areas and we are happy to see the results.” 

 

Q: What aspect of your game do you feel you improved the most this season?

 

A: I worked hard to improve my defense and moves in the post. 

 

Q: What is your favorite memory of this past season?

 

A: On the court, my favorite memory was beating Lansdale Catholic to finish off our undefeated season in the Catholic League. Off the court, it was all the team sleepovers and dinners we have had throughout the season.

 

Q: What do you think is the strongest aspect of your game? What part of your game are you working on the most currently?

 

A: The strongest aspect of my game is being able to score from all three levels of the court. Currently I am working on improving my handle. 

 

Q: You started playing basketball in second grade, as a forward. Who have been your most important basketball mentors; and what was the most important thing you learned from each of them?

 

A: My most important basketball mentors have been my coaches at Carroll – Mrs. [Renie] Shields, Erin Shields, Leanne Ockenden, Nora Mcgeever, and Mike Perretta; with the Comets – John McFadden and Joe Genther; and my dad. My coaches at Carroll have helped me develop every aspect of my game, my Comets coaches have taught and helped me compete at the AAU level, and my dad has taught and shown me the importance of hard work. 

 

Q: Who is your favorite basketball player, and why?

 

A: My favorite basketball player is Micheal Jordan because of his work ethic and competitiveness.  

 

Q: You wear uniform jersey No. 22 for Archbishop Carroll girls basketball. Why did you pick that number?

 

A: It was my number on my first basketball team so I have just stuck with it since then. 

 

Q: Tell us a little about your pre-game preparation on the day of a game.

 

A: Every game day we go to Wawa as a team and get food. Before the game starts we listen to music in the locker room and come up with goals for the game to prepare. 

 

Q: What is your favorite academic course at Archbishop Carroll? What do you think you’d like to major in at college?

 

A: My favorite class right now is AP US History because I really like learning about past and the things that shaped our country. I would like to major in Finance in college.

Person I most admire, and why: “I most admire my parents because of their work ethic and willingness to help my siblings and I whenever we need it.”
