Norristown’s Brown a double champ at PFTCA Indoor Championships
Norristown senior Jaden Brown set a meet record and captured gold in the 60 meters and 200 meters Sunday to lead a contingent of athletes from the Pioneer Athletic Conference at the Pa. Track and Field Coaches Association’s Indoor State Championships at Penn State University.
Brown bested the 2018 mark of Dock Mennonite’s Austin Kratz (6.73) in the 60-meter semifinals with a 6.72. He still had to back it up in the finals where he ran a winning 6.74.
Brown’s 21.36 in the 200 fronted a field led by District 1 rivals – Pennridge’s Joey Gant in second (21.68) and Coatesville’s Lebron Bessick in third (21.86). Methacton junior Zach Willen placed seventh in the 200 (22.05).

Another champion from the PAC was Spring-Ford senior Nene Mokonchu who won the girls’ high jump with a 5-8, four inches better than runner-up Grace Howard of South Fayette.Mokonchu cleared 5-6 on her second attempt and upped her margin at 5-8, clearing the bar on her third try.
Perkiomen Valley senior Ronde Washington earned silver in the boys’ shot put with his 55-5 1/4, bested only by Penn Hill’s Angelo Allen (56-8 1/4). Boyertown senior Jayden Miller placed eighth with a 50-0 1/2.
Spring-Ford junior Vania Mokonchu finished fifth in the shot put with a 38-11 3/4. Shenango senior Emma Callahan set a meet record with a winning 50-3 throw.
Owen J. Roberts junior Claire Zubey finished sixth in the mile with a 5:04.27.
The OJR team of Zubey, Morgan Weaver, Ava Taylor and Grace Fennell placed sixth in the distance medley relay (12:54.64).
Perkiomen Valley sophomore Mackenzie Owens ran a 9.40 in the 60-meter hurdles to place sixth.
Perkiomen Valley sophomore Ashley Pickles earned a podium finish in the 400 meters with a 58.71 for 7th place. He also placed 15th in the 200 (26.34).
The Methacton girls’ 4×200 relay placed 8th (1:46.43) and Warriors’ senior Coco Dunham finished ninth in the triple jump (36-6 3/4).
The Owen J. Roberts boys’ distance medley relay (Thomas Damiani, Evan Holladay, Nathan Hayes, Andrew McGonigle) placed sixth. The Spring-Ford boys’ 4×200 relay placed sixth. The Methacton boys’ 4×800 relay finished seventh.
Butler won the boys’ team title and Friends’ Central won the girls’.
