Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media Roundup (Feb. 8): McConnaha, Harter lead Souderton girls basketball to 16th straight win
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Souderton 57, Pennridge 39 >> Teya McConnaha and Casey Harter both posted double-doubles as Souderton jumped out to a 15-5 lead after a quarter in the SOL Colonial contest and went on to earn its 16th straight victory Tuesday night.
McConnaha collected 21 points and 12 rebounds while Harter finished with 17 points and dished out 10 assists for the Indians (19-2, 14-1 division). Erin Bohmueller had two points, five blocks, four rebounds an three assists with Grace McDonough posting four points and six rebounds.
Ella Brown scored 10 points to pace Pennridge (10-11, 6-9), which lost its third straight.
Methacton 60, Unionville 45 >> Nicole Timko knocked down four 3-pointers in scoring a game-high 23 points as Methacton bested host Unionville to end its regular season with a third win a row.
Cassidy Kropp chipped in 11 points for the Warriors (20-2, 12-1 PAC) who led 31-23 at halftime then extended its advantage to 43-31 at the end of the third. Milana Amoss and Riley Angstadt both had 14 points for the Longhorns.
Archbishop Wood 78, Lansdale Catholic 54 >> Ryanne Allen had a stellar night as Archbishop Wood rolled to its fourth consecutive victory, the Vanderbilt commit finishing with 34 points, seven rebounds, five steals, two assists and a block.
Deja Evans recorded a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds to go along with four assists, three blocks and a pair of steals for the Vikings (14-6, 7-2 PCL). Bri Bowen added 19 points and three assists.
With the loss, Lansdale Catholic falls to 14-5 (7-2 PCL).
Central Bucks West 34, Central Bucks East 27 >> Emily Spratt scored 17 points as Central Bucks West topped visiting Central Bucks East for its fourth win in its last five games.
Tai Henkels added 11 points while Alexis Castro grabbed eight rebounds for the Bucks (16-5, 11-4 SOL Colonial). The Patriots dropped to 9-11 (6-9 SOL Colonial).
Germantown Academy 55, Perkiomen School 45 >> Jessica Aponik had 17 points while CeeJay Thomas collected 18 rebounds and five points as Germantown Academy went on the road and won its third straight in the nonleague matchup.
Kendall Bennett posted 13 points and six blocks for the Patriots (12-6, 5-2 Inter-AC), who outscored Perkiomen School 21-10 in the third to take a 42-23 lead. Sam Wade added six points and four steals.
Lauren Patnode scored a game-high 25 points for the Panthers.
Archbishop Carroll 47, Bonner & Prendergast 21 >> Archbishop Carroll led 25-11 at halftime then blanked Bonner & Prendergast 12-0 in the third as the Patriots stayed undefeated in Philadelphia Catholic League play.
Grace O’Neill and Maggie Grant had 10 and nine points, respectively, for Carroll (16-4, 9-0 PCL). Bridie McCann had 14 points for the Pandas (3-10, 2-7 PCL).
Friends’ Central 61, Academy New Church 27 >> Visiting Friends’ Central handed Academy of the New Church a Friends Schools League loss.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Germantown Academy 62, Haverford School 44 >> Casey Traina connected on four 3-pointers in scoring a game-high 18 points as Germantown Academy stopped a two-game skid with a home Inter-Ac victory.
Bryce Rollerson finished with 12 points for the Patriots (8-10. 3-5 league), who led 29-18 at halftime. Dave Kearney had 11 points for Haverford School (5-14, 2-7)
Central Bucks East 55, Central Bucks West 41 >> Tyriq Toney-Bailey scored 10 of his game-best 14 points in the fourth quarter as Central Bucks East used a strong second half to win its fourth straight and stay tied with Central Bucks South for first in the SOL Colonial.
Donte Mancini had 12 points for Central Bucks West (4-16, 3-12 division) with John Lee and Michael Fountain each scoring 10 points. The game was tied 18-18 at halftime before host East (14-7, 10-5) outscored the Bucks 17-12 in the third then took the fourth 20-11.
Ryan Lenahan had seven points, four rebounds and four assists for the Patriots. Aidan Weaver posted seven points and five rebounds while Jacob Cummiskey chipped in seven points.
Upper Moreland 51, William Tennent 31 >> Byron Hopkins and Matt Tiernan both scored 12 points as Upper Moreland topped host William Tennent for its third win in the last four games.
Stefan Garofalo totaled 10 points with Rashim Lancit collecting nine points for the Golden Bears (13-8, 8-7 SOL Freedom).
Tennent (7-12, 7-8 SOL Freedom) lost its second straight.
Jenkintown 48, MaST Charter 40 >> Jake Hilton hit a trio of 3-pointers in leading all scorers with 26 points as Jenkintown held off MaST Charter in the fourth to stop a two-game skid.
The Drakes (5-14, 5-7 BAL Presidents) built a 24-14 halftime lead before MaST (7-13, 5-8 BAL Independence) pulled to within 31-30 at the end of the third.
Springfield-Montco 47, Lower Moreland 33 >> Ben Cooney recorded a double-double with 17 pints and 14 rebounds as Springfield picked up an SOL Freedom road win.
Dylan McKenzie had 10 points and three steals for the Spartans (10-9, 6-9 division) while Kyle Smythe added seven points. The loss dropped Lower Moreland to 6-13 (5-9).
