Cross Country: Notre Dame’s Trainer, Strath Haven’s Crawford repeat All-Delco selections
In addition to Runners of the Year Ethan Fingerhut of Haverford and Ruby Schwelm of Penncrest, the All-Delco team includes:
Therese Trainer, Notre Dame: The junior earned All-Delco honors for the second time in her career and is just one of two repeat selections from 2019, the last time the team was selected. She is the first runner from Notre Dame to win the Delco Championships title. Trainer also finished second at the Inter-Ac League championships to lead the Irish to their first league title since 2015, and was 11th at the PAISAA championships. She ran the fastest time of her career (18:37.40) in a 10th-place finish in the girls “brown” race at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University. Trainer earned All-Delco honors in track in 2019.
Camryn McGeehan, Haverford: It was a breakout year for the Fords freshman. She was the top Delaware County finisher at the District 1 Class 3A championships. She placed 11th, the best by a Ford since Tess Meehan was ninth in 2012. That enabled Haverford to earn a trip to Hershey for the PIAA Championships as a team, where she was 46th individually and the team was ninth. McGeehan placed third at Delcos, fourth at the Central League Championships and turned in her best time of the year (19:06.50) with a 21st-place finish in the brown race at Paul Short.
Hannah Prokup, Strath Haven: She was one of Strath Haven’s most consistent runners over the course of a season in which the Panthers won the Delco Championships, took a share of the Central League crown and captured a District 1 Class 3A title for the first time in program history. The sophomore was fourth at Delcos, fifth at Centrals, 21st at districts and 69th in the state meet. She also placed ninth at the Briarwood Invitational, 12th at the PTCX 12.2 meet and 37th at the PIAA Foundation meet.
Rowe Crawford, Strath Haven: Crawford capped her cross country career with her second All-Delco nod. She also earned first-team honors as a sophomore in 2019. She was Strath Haven’s leader throughout the season. Crawford placed 16th to lead the Panthers to their first District 1 Class 3A title in program history and a berth in the PIAA Championships as a team. She took second at the Central Leagues and Briarwood Invitational, fifth at Delcos, 19th at the PTXC meet, 58th at the PIAA Foundation meet and 96th at the PIAA Championships.
Gwyneth Stach, Strath Haven: She had the best season of her career as a senior, breaking 20 minutes three times, to help the Panthers win the county and District 1 Class 3A titles. After taking 35th at the PTXC 12.2 meet and 14th at Briarwood, Stach ran a personal best 19:14.40 to take 27th at the Paul Short Run. She followed that performance with a sixth-place finish at Delcos, a third-place at the Central Leagues, 42nd at the District 1 championships and 186th at the PIAA championship meet.
Kathryn Lynn, Episcopal Academy: The senior got her final scholastic season off to a good start with a 10th-place finish at the 33rd annual Abington Invitational. She followed that with a ninth-place at the inaugural Atkinson Invitational, the highest place by a Delco runner. Lynn turned in the best time of her career (20:09.60) to finish seventh at the Delco championship meet. She closed out her season with a fourth-place at the Inter-Ac League championships and seventh at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association championships.
Patrick Lawson, Haverford: Part of a potent 1-2-3 punch with Fingerhut and fellow junior Quentin Ryan to lead the Fords to the county team title and fifth-place finishes at the District 1 and PIAA Class 3A championships. He was the Delco and Central League runnerup to Fingerhut and placed seventh and 16th, respectively, to earn medals at the district and state championships. Lawson turned in the best time of his career (15:32.10) to take seventh place in the brown race at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University.
Quentin Ryan, Haverford: Followed up a strong outdoor track season with an equally solid cross country campaign. Finished third behind Fingerhut and Lawson in all three Central League dual meets and at the Delco Championships to lead the Fords to their second county title the last three times the meet has been held. Went on to place seventh at the Central League championships and then turned in the best time of his career (16:05.30) to take 15th at the District 1 Class 3A championships. The junior closed out the season with a 45th-place finish at the PIAA Championships.
Gavin Mogck, Penncrest: He was part of a strong junior class that came into its own this season. Mogck was a three-time winner, two in Central League dual meets and one at the Salesianum Invitational. He took fourth at the Delco championship meet, fifth at the Central League championships before turning in the best time of his career (15:56.10) to place 12th at the District 1 championships. He closed out his season at 33rd at the PIAA Championships.
Jimmy Kurtz, Radnor: One of three seniors to make the first team, Kurtz bounced back from a disappointing 27th-place finish at the Central Leagues to turn in the best time of his career at the District 1 Class 3A championships to earn a spot in the PIAAs, running 16:36.80 to finish 44th. He went on to place 101st at the state meet. Kurtz Kurtz finished fifth at the Delco Championships and 28th at the Paul Short “white” race.
Luke Rodden Radnor: He had a breakout year as the top sophomore in the county, and made a statement with a sixth-place finish at the county championship and followed that with an 18th-place in the Central League title meet. Turned in the best time of his career (16:40.90) to finish 49th at the District 1 Class 3A championships and earn a spot in the PIAAs, where he placed 107th. Rodden also was 36th in the white race at the Paul Short Run.
Benjamin Ent, Strath Haven: With a mile to go in the District 1 Class 3A championships the senior was well out of a qualifying spot for the PIAA meet, but that’s when he made his move. Ent passed more than 20 runners in the final stretch to finish 47th and earn a trip to Hershey with a personal best time of 16:38.80. That was the best finish at the district meet by a male runner from Strath Haven since Paul Butera was 33rd in 2012. Ent went on to place 103rd at the state meet. He also was 10th at Delcos and 13th at the Central League Championships.
