Main Line roundup: Radnor’s Ciarrocchi wins Central League singles title
Radnor High School sophomore Leina Ciarrocchi, who is undefeated in Central League play at No. 1 singles this fall, captured the Central League singles tournament title Sept. 25.
Ciarrocchi defeated Conestoga’s Katherine Emmanuel in the championship final, 0-6, 6-4, 3-0 ret; defeated Harriton’s Josephine Kwok in the semifinal, 6-3, 6-2; and was victorious against Lower Merion’s Brody Smith, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.
Emmanuel advanced to the finals by defeating Strath Haven’s Sophia Anderson in the semifinals, 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-4. In the third place match, Anderson defeated Kwok 6-1, 6-3; in the fifth-place match, Conestoga’s Felicia Manful defeated Garnet Valley’s Elizabeth Qian, 6-1, 6-1; and Harriton’s Rachel Wang won the seventh-place match.

Girls’ volleyball
Lower Merion (8-0, 4-0) defeated Downingtown East, 3-1, Sept. 25. The Aces lost the first set 20-25; won the second set behind the defense of Claire Hamilton, who finished with 26 digs on the day; came back from a 9-2 deficit in the third set to win 27-25; and won the final set 25-14. Abiah Lane had 18 kills and 17 digs on the day while Emily Greenland set a new Lower Merion record for most assists in a game with 46.
Agnes Irwin defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 3-0, Sept. 25, posting scores of 25-20, 25-7, 25-10. The Owls were led offensively by junior Sydney Chen with 8 kils, senior Golda Mehl with 6 kills and defensively by sophomore Ella Zwilling with 21 digs and junior Anahla Thomas with 16 digs.
Sacred Heart Academy defeated Haverford, 3-0, Sept. 24, posting scores of 25-22, 25-21, 25-18. The Lions were led by Emily McKenna (13 kills, 3 aces, 9 digs), Elizabeth Cuskey (5 kills, 7 aces) and Annie Corcoran (6 kills, 23 assists).
Villa Maria Academy defeated Academy of Notre Dame, 3-1, Sept. 23. Gabby Konrad led the Irish with 16 kills and 6 aces, Alana Whitwell had 10 kills and 8 digs. Ava Goryl had 7 aces, and Skylar Kelly had 10 digs.
Baldwin School defeated Marple Newtown, 3-2, Sept. 23. The Polar Bears were led by Cynthia Huang (4 aces, 27 assists), Ryan Shelton (5 aces, 6 kills, 4 blocks), Joelle Pearlstein (9 kills, 2 blocks), Gabi Pritzker (7 kills), Zoe Ross (4 kills, 3 blocks) and Bella Gormley (7 digs)
Field hockey
Haverford High (3-3, 1-1) defeated Council Rock South, 1-0, Monday. In the third quarter senior Ella VanLuvender sent a hard cross from the top of the circle and junior Morgan Elliot received it on left post and scored. The Fords received solid play from seniors Maura Quaile on offense and Emma Taylor on defense. Senior goalie Kailyn Distler recorded 13 saves.
Academy of Notre Dame defeated Sacred Heart (Greenwich, Conn.), 2-1, Sept. 25. Saylor Milone scored both goals for the Irish (5-2).
Episcopal Academy defeated Norfolk Academy, 2-1, in overtime Sept. 26. Charly Bruder scored the game-winner, and assisted on EA’s first goal by Mia Garber. EA goalie Gianna Ciluffo recorded 11 saves.
Archbishop Carroll defeated Prendergast, 5-0, Sept. 24. Sienna Golden scored two goals for the Patriots (6-3, 3-0) and goalie Reilly McMeniman recorded five saves.

Girls’ soccer
Academy of Notre Dame beat Baldwin School, 2-1, Sept. 24 with 35 seconds left in the second overtime on a goal scored by Julia Rossi. ND’s first goal was on a strike from Bryanna Young from 35 yards out in the first half.
Episcopal Academy defeated Radnor, 4-0, Sept. 24. Quinn Whitaker scored two goals and junior goalie Maya Naimoli posted her fifth shutout in six games.
Merion Mercy Academy defeated Delaware Christian, 6-0, Sept. 24, getting goals from Mary Kate Lopresti (2), Sofia Fisher, Lily Denm, Katie Kaufmann and Caroline Norton.
Boys’ soccer
Lower Merion (6-0) defeated Marple Newtown, 5-0, getting two goals from Reid Joseph and single goals from Jack Forman, Simon Rosen and Luke Vaughan.
Water polo
Malvern Prep defeated Friends’ Central, 19-7, Monday behind a 10 goal outburst by senior captain Adam Utecht. Connell O’Rourke had 3 goals and 3 assists and Max McGovern scored 3 goals. Goalkeeper Carter Marks made 8 saves, 2 steals and had 2 assists.
Haverford School defeated Lawrenceville, 17-10, Sept. 24 in the Beast of the East tournament. Senior captains Jake LaRocca and Bram Schork each scored 4 goals, and junior goalie Jaiden Schuchman had 5 saves, 5 assists and 2 steals.
Girls’ tennis
Episcopal Academy defeated Shipley, 4-1, Sept. 25. For EA, Ashley Kennedy was victorious at first singles, and Maddy Mitchell was the winner at third singles.
