North Penn-Owen J. Roberts District 1-6A 2nd round game suspended in 4th with NP leading 4-0
TOWAMENCIN >> North Penn was leading Owen J. Roberts 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning Wednesday when lightning forced both teams inside.
The District 1-6A Playoff game was delayed for over an hour due to a thunderstorm and ultimately suspended until Thursday at 1 p.m. The winner of that game advances to face Haverford in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m., at North Penn.
Mady Volpe was in the midst of a dominant performance, striking out seven of the 14 batters she faced in four innings of work. Volpe even struck out five straight batters in a stretch during the second and third innings.
Emma DiBattista led off the top of the first with a single for the Wildcats, but then Volpe didn’t allow another hit the rest of the day.
Meanwhile, Wildcat starter Natalie Alldred threw a scoreless first but then the Knights plated runs in both the second and third innings to build their lead.
Sarah Sabocsik came through with a two-run single in the second, and an OJR error brought in another run to make it 3-0.
Gianna Cimino’s RBI double in the third widened the gap to 4-0.
