North Penn, Dock Mennonite win team titles at District 1 Championships
The North Penn boys track and field team raced to second in the 4×800-meter relay, got third-place finishes from Jeff Wang in the 300 hurdles and from Aaron Malamed in the long jump along with medals in eight other events, pulling away to the District 1-3A Team Title Saturday at Coatesville Area High.
North Penn scored 47 points, outscoring second-place Hatboro-Horsham (42), followed by Downingtown West (34), Coatesville (31), Central Bucks West (27) and Pennridge (25).
The Knights’ 4×800 finished second in 7 minutes, 56.34 seconds to lead the way.
North Penn also medaled in the 4×4 to cap things off, with a time of 3:23.15.
The Knights were a balanced force at Coatesville.
Marc Cobbs (seventh in 100, 11.10), Wang (third in 300 hurdles, 40.89), Devin Nugent (fifth in 400, 49.89), Karl Schafsteller (sixth in 800, 1:57.29) and Chris Bonsignore (fourth in high jump, 6-1) all made significant contributions, as did Luke Alcom (fifth in javelin, 162-0), Aaron Malamed (third in long jump, 22-3.75), John Steele (sixth in the triple jump, 43-11.25) and Jabrie Gaymon (eighth in the triple jump, 41-10.25).
Also locally in Class 3A, Devon Comber of Hatboro-Horsham (3,200, 9:23.03), Upper Dublin’s Jaden Price-Whitehead (long jump, 23-8.5), Cheltenham’s Malcolm Garbutt (110 hurdles, 15.06; 300 hurdles, 39.10), Norristown’s Jaden Brown (100 dash, 10.71),
Wissahickon’s Isaiah Marc (400, 48.81), Pennridge’s Joey Gant (200, 21.58), Central Bucks West’s 4×400 relay (3:22.29), Hatboro-Horsham’s Kasey Savage (triple jump, 46-10.25) and William Tennent’s James Richie (discus, 143-6) all earned individual district golds.
Another Trophy For Dock >> Dock claimed the crown in Class 2A, making it five titles in the past nine years for the Pioneers.
Stanley Saint-Fleur won the 400 for Dock in 49.17 seconds and he also raced to the gold in the 800 in 2:01.78.
Omar Al-Laty won the javelin for the Pioneers with a throw of 112-10 and Smeland cleared 11 feet in the pole vault for first.
Jonah Chavez (seventh in 100, 12.40; sixth in 200, 24.74), Roman Kuhn (eighth in 100, 12.44; third in long jump, 19-4; second in triple jump, 36-11.75), Micah Mast (second in 110 hurdles, 18.23; fourth in 300 hurdles, 45.39), Smeland (third in 400, 54.71) and Josh Bauman (second in 1,600, 4:33.61) all made key contributions for Dock.
The Pioneers’ 4×400 relay raced to gold in 3:36.98 and the 4×8 team was fourth in 9:48.80.
Dock finished with 108 points in Class 2A, topping the 77 by runner-up Jenkintown.
Also locally, Luke Miller of Jenkintown (3,200, 9:37.31; 1,600, 4:24.75) and Geordan Gossett of Jenkintown (110 hurdles, 16.94) earn district golds.
