District 1 Class 2A Boys Lacrosse: Strong second quarter the difference in Marple win
A seven-goal outburst in the second quarter put Marple Newtown up for good in a 15-9 win over Upper Merion in the first round of the District 1 Class 2A boys lacrosse playoffs Wednesday.
Damien Bogsche led the offense with four goals. CJ Lane tallied three goals and two assists, Charlie Box had two goals and four assists and Joey Yukenevitch added a hat trick for the sixth-seeded Tigers, who advance to take on No. 2 Bishop Shanahan in next Tuesday’s semifinals.
Jack Welsh made six saves for Marple, and Alex Chambers went 16-for-24 at the X.
In another District 1 Class 2A quarterfinal:
Penncrest 16, Upper Moreland 4 >> The fifth-seeded Lions led 11-2 at halftime in a romp past Upper Moreland. Brennan Kaut orchestrated the attack with two goals and five assists.
Dylan McDougall and Jason Poole scored four times each, MacDougall adding two helpers, and Steven Woolery accounted for three and three. Wyatt Hannemann went 18-for-23 on faceoffs and also scored, while Andre Wickman turned aside nine shots.
