Mercury Softball Roundup (May 10): Newman’s walkoff HR gives Methacton 9-inning win over Upper Perkiomen

Caraline Newman’s walkoff home run in the ninth inning decided Monday’s pitchers’ duel between Methacton’s Paige Deal and Upper Perk’s Taylor Croak.
Methacton’s Deal and UP’s Croak each allowed only a run through eight innings, the Warriors’ run coming on a Nicole Timko homer and the Tribe manufacturing a run in the sixth.
Deal allowed three hits and struck out 16. Croak allowed four hits and two runs over eight innings with three Ks and a walk.
Spring-Ford 14, Pottsgrove 0
Brianna Peck threw a five-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and starred at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI for the Rams, who are 13-0 and a win away from clinching the PAC championship.
Noelle Reid (3 RBI), Madi Walsh and Madison Peck had two-hit games for Spring-Ford.
Perkiomen Valley 15, Pottstown 2
Serena Crovetti’s inside-the-park three-run home run was part of her 3-for-4, 4 RBI day to lead Perk Valley to a PAC cross-division win.
Every Viking player had a hit while multiple hits were turned in by Kinsey Moses, Brianna Reim (double), Chloe Rupe and Abby Souder. Sam Corey and winning pitcher Ava Macalis homered.
Boyertown 3, Pope John Paul II 1
MacKenzie Shaner (2-for-3) and Logan Black had RBI singles and Avery Frey allowed four hits and an unearned run over 6.1 innings to lead the Bears to a PAC crossover win.
Frey, who drove in a run, had four strikeouts and walked two. Boyertown leadoff hitter Alyx Morgan was 2-for-3.
PJP’s Dani Dare allowed three runs on seven hits over 6 innings. She struck out six and walked three.

Daniel Boone 9, Wilson 2
At Birdsboro, Kristen DiNolfi went 4-for-4 with three doubles to help the Blazers (10-1, 13-2) down the Bulldogs (3-8, 6-13). DiNolfi drove in two runs and scored three for the division-champion Blazers. Hannah Cassner went 2-for-3 with a home run and Hannah Johns went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs for Daniel Boone. For Wilson, Gia Borelli hit a double and Cecilia Asplen drove in a run and scored the other.
