Conestoga’s Patrick Reilly is Main Line Boys Athlete of the Week
The junior has been a key reason for the Conestoga boys’ lacrosse team’s good start, with 16 goals and five assists after the first eight games after being moved from midfielder to attack. Reilly was a starter as a freshman on the Pioneer team that won the Central League and District 1 3A title and advanced to the PIAA state championship final. Conestoga boys’ lacrosse head coach Brody Bush said, “His speed and mental toughness are his best attributes as a lacrosse player.” Last fall, Reilly received All-Central League second team honors as a receiver for the Conestoga football team.
Q: What did you work on most during the past off-season? What were your pre-season goals for the 2021 Conestoga lacrosse season?
A: I moved to attack for my club team (Crabs lacrosse) too, so I had the chance to work with them this past fall on learning the position. I also spent a lot of time in the gym. Coming into this season, my goals for our team were to win the Central League title and make a deep run in Districts and the PIAA state tournament.
Q: Tell us a little about your lacrosse training during this past COVID pandemic year, the biggest challenges you faced as a lacrosse player due to the COVID pandemic, and how you dealt with those challenges.
A: Since so many local fields were closed at times, I spent time in the backyard with my brothers. It was hard to get team members together like we normally would have.
Q: What is your favorite memory of the 2019 season?
A: My favorite memory from the 2019 season was beating Radnor in the PIAA state semifinal, and being able to play with those juniors one last time, who were never able to get a real senior season.
Q: Tell us a little about your start in lacrosse. Who have been your biggest lacrosse mentors, and what was the most important thing each of them taught you about lacrosse?
A: I started playing in 6th grade. Both of my older brothers were playing, and I wanted to keep up with them. I learned a lot from my earlier coaches, Austin Campbell and Brian Dailey. They are both Conestoga alums that coached me in CYLAX. Also, my freshman season, Brendan Murphy was such a good mentor to me, and one of the best teammates I’ve ever had.
Q: Tell us a little about your pre-game preparation the day of a game.
A: I try to review the opponent’s film again and see who my matchup will most likely be. Also, just drinking water all day and staying hydrated.
Q: What is your favorite academic course at Conestoga?
A: I like science classes in general.
