ROUNDUP: Conran, Johnston spur Springfield past Upper Darby
Springfield leaned on Rachel Conran and Carli Johnston to spur a third-quarter run during the Cougars’ 49-44 Central League victory over Upper Darby.
Conran tallied five of her team-high 13 points, while Johnston had six of her 11 points in the third period to propel the Cougars, who remained unbeaten in the Central.
Johnston finished with a double-double, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds. Alyssa Long had a solid floor game with nine points, four steals and three assists. Alexa Abbonizio chipped in with 10 points.
Jasmine Forrester paced the Royals with 15 points. Gabby Liberio added 13.
Elsewhere in the Central League:
Ridley 45, Radnor 35 >> Dakota McCaughan netted 11 of her game-high 15 points in the first quarter as the Green Raiders registered their fourth consecutive win.
Lindsay Boyd and Shea McNamara tossed in nine points apiece for Ridley (15-2). Shannen Hinchey added eight points in the winning effort.
Ellie Mueller had 11 points and Julia Rigolizzo finished with 10 for the Raiders (9-6).
Marple Newtown 29, Conestoga 26 >> The Pioneers baffled everyone in attendance by holding the ball near midcourt for as long as possible. MN stayed in a zone defense, waiting for ‘Stoga to do … something. Ultimately, the Tigers and Pioneers combined for two points in the opening period.
Marple (6-8) pulled away with a 13-5 run in the third quarter. Haley Levy led the charge with 11 points and 11 boards, while Mackenize Hilden chipped in with eight.
Garnet Valley 45, Penncrest 27 >> Ava Possenti led a balanced offensive attack for the Jaguars, scoring a game-high 13 points. Liesl Dentinger contributed nine points and Abbey Anderson ended with eight.
Alexis Calloway amassed a team-high 12 points for the host Lions.
In nonleague action:
Sacred Heart 43, Agnes Irwin 13 >> Ainsley Davis tallied 15 points for the Lions, who jumped out to a 23-7 lead at the break. Amanda Heilmann and Carina Fichera each pitched in with eight points.
