DEast’s Goodman wins 100th career game with rout of Shanahan
DOWNINGTOWN — Heading into a tough stretch of the schedule, Downingtown East needed a win at Bishop Shanahan move forward with some mojo.
Potential playoff implications aside, the Cougars came into Thursday night’s game against the Eagles with a little extra motivation, as head coach John Goodman sat on 99 career wins.
There was little drama, though, as East hit 13 three-pointers and controlled the game from the get-go, resulting in a 65-48 win in Ches-Mont National Division play.
Goodman, who took over at East in 2012, is all of a sudden the longest-tenured coach in the National, and was happy to share the credit after hitting a milestone win.
“It probably means I’ve been doing this too long,” Goodman said. “But just all the guys, all the assistants that have helped me, it’s always been a we thing. Never just about me, it’s always been about us, everyone who’s been a part of the program the last seven and a half seasons. I appreciate the support from the school and all the players who’ve allowed me to stick around this long. It was good to do it (Thursday night) in a league road game and I’m hoping it can kind of get us going in the second half of the season.”
David Owsik lead the Cougars with 17 points and five threes, while Andrew King was just behind with 16 points.
East led 32-17 at the break and never looked back.
“It means a lot to all of us,” King said. “Especially because I’ve been here for four years and he’s been my coach the entire time. To watch the program grow throughout the four years is really special.”
The Cougars will host Executive Education Academy Charter School, Saturday, before a big league week with Downingtown West and West Chester East on the slate next Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
Zane Domsohn led the Eagles (3-9) with 10 points, off the bench.
